Alternative Hair Stops

The cheapest and I believe the most effective hair stop is to use a piece of uncooked spaghetti.

It is also a natural food and holds soft baits such as prawns really well.

Another hair-rig idea is the use of fuse wire at the end of the hair.

Tie your rig as usual, but tie into the loop of the hair a one-inch piece of fuse wire...

Thread the bait onto the hair as usual, pull the wire through the bait and then turn it back on itself, it holds soft baits really well - and there's no need of any hair stop.

It's ideal for meat and softer baits.

You can also use pole elastic as a hair stop... it's cheap and comes in various colours and thickness to suit your baits.
