Leader Cleaner All you need to make an excellent fly leader cleaner is Fullers Earth... Fullers Earth is the main ingredient for cat litter, that grey powdery stuff used in kitty's litter tray. Just put a handful of the clean cat litter into a plastic bag, and gently crush into a fine powder with the aid of a hammer. Once you have reduced it to a fine consistency, gradually add washing-up liquid, until you have a stiff paste. An empty 35mm film canister can be used to store the paste and keep it fresh and damp. If in time it does dry out, a little water can be added to quickly restore it back to a pliable paste. To use: Simply take a pinch of the paste between your finger and thumb and squeezing gently, slide the leader through the paste. Not only will it remove all the grease - allowing the leader to sink, it will also remove the shine from new leaders. |
