Rudd Fishing
Rudd are one of the most beautiful fish, with their bright buttery golden flanks. They will feed all day, even in the height of summer. The upturned mouth gives away their preference for feeding in the upper layers of the water.
They are often found close to the lines of reeds, feeding on the surface on natural baits like flies and nymphs. For the anglers, this means fishing with a floating or a slowly sinking bait. Casters are perfect and should be fished on a size 18 hook and 3lb line.
A simple float setup with no shot down the line is the method. The bait sinks slowly and looks like loose-fed casters.
The great thing about Rudd like this cracking two pounder is that they are aggressive and you don’t need ultra-light tackle. Let’s put him back.
