Can you help?
Worksop and District AA are doing their bit for the environment as
part of the Bassetlaw Council spring clean and would like to invite
any volunteers to join them.
They are planning to clear the towpath along the Chesterfield Canal
on the waters from Drakeholes basin through to West Retford Bridge.
Any volunteers should meet up at the Drakeholes Basin at 9am on the
22nd April with the promise of a pint at the Hop Pole for anyone who

CLUB RESULTS
Wales and Kiveton Park AC open match on the Chesterfield canal on
1st April saw a perch over 2lb and a Koi carp in excess of one and
a half pounds landed among the mainly skimmer nets.
John White topped the field with 8lb 4oz from peg 30 with P. Gleadon
in second weighing 5lb 7oz off peg one and Brian Wilton made up the
frame on peg 28 with 4lb 7oz.
Worksop United
permit holders match which took place last Saturday was won by Mick
Drage with 18lb 8oz with J. Perry weighing 12lb 1oz for second place
and Algy Wearham claiming third spot with 6lb 14oz.
The members of
Stanley Street Sports and Social Club fished Hosckers Pond at Candy
Corner on Sunday where Pete Scott was the top rod with a mixed bag
of 24lb 4oz taken on pole fished maggot. Mick Simpson ran close but
had to make do with second place weighing 23lb 12oz employing pole
fished corn or pellet with John Moor coming third.
The Greyhound
AC celebrated the re-opening of their headquarters with a match last
Saturday at Brooklands fishery at Spion Kop. Billy Dawes turned back
the years to put in a sterling performance on the maggot feeder claiming
first place with 32lb 3oz off peg eight.
On the next peg nine John Wilson used the same method to bag 27lb
13oz for the runner-up position with Dave Robinson in third from peg
7 with a net of 20lb 15oz.
The Langold Lake
open match fished on 9th April saw 23 anglers competing, but Paul
Unwin took the top position with a weight of 16lb 10oz consisting
of five bream which fell to the groundbait feeder with a red maggot
hook bait off peg five.
Mark Turner was a close second landing three bream and three skimmers
for 16lb 3oz using the same method but with a worm and caster hookbait
off peg 48 with Kevin Leach making up the frame with 14lb 5oz off
peg One.
Sherwood round-up
Wednesday 5th’s fun league on Holmedale Lake was won by Jason
Thomas who almost broke the ton on peg 26 putting 92lb 8oz on the
scales fishing meat at 13 metres over a bed of pellet.
Steve Keyworth ran him close but had to settle for second spot netting
943lb 15oz off peg 35 employing a groundbait feeder with a meat hook
bait with Carl Brown claiming third using pole fished corn on peg
51 weighing 52lb 16oz. Next week’s draw takes place at 11pm
at the cabin.
On Sunday it was the third round of the pairs series on Holmedale
where on-form Jason Thomas took the honours with 53lb 6oz off peg
24, pole fishing pellet or corn at 13 metres. John Darby put 41lb
8oz on the scales for second using pole fished corn on peg 32 with
Dean Richmond making up the frame on peg 20 with 40lb 8oz.
Also on Sunday it was the Peg One spring league fished on the Sherwood
Lake where Shaun Lambert pole fished corn in the margins to land a
winning mixed net of 24lb 3oz on peg 42, Mick Lysaught claimed the
runners up position employing pole fished caster on peg 40 weighing
16lb 15oz of silver fish.
Lakeside Round-Up
Regular visitors the White Hart AC fished their match last Wednesday
where Mark Radford pole fished caster on peg 30 to land a winning
net of silverfish weighing 29lb 6oz.
On Saturday it
was round 11 of Linda’s Lakeside Winter League fished in a brisk
wind but this did not deter Danny Hodgkiss from putting a mixed bag
of 35lb on the scales to take the top position using pole fished worm
and caster off peg 33.
Darren Gibson employed pole fished caster on peg six to claim the
second spot with 24lb 15oz and Darren Godley landed 24lb 7oz using
pole and pellet to claim third place off peg 13.
Sunday saw round six of the R&R spring league taking place where
Danny Hodgkiss made it a double winning weekend weighing a 50lb 7oz
mixed net this time using bomb fished meat on peg 31. Carl Sweatnam
ran him a close second on peg 29 netting 49lb 3oz with Steve Forster
making the frame off peg four with 42lb 3oz.
Pleasure angler Mark Shaw an 80+lb net of carp, goldfish, roach and
skimmers off peg four on the second strip using pole fished sweetcorn
and pellet.
Over on the carp Garry Croft had four fish the best a common of 24lb
6oz off peg three. On the trout lake Mick Langley had 13 fish which
included an 11lb 8oz rainbow caught on buzzers and floating line.
John Hall had ten fish to 6lb on green fritz and intermediate line.
Riverside Round-Up
Weights are certainly up again at the Scrooby venue with Les Richmond
topping the field in last Monday’s open match, landing 59lb
off peg 33 using pole fished pellet with Kieth Noble pushing him all
the way using the same method on peg 35 weighing 58lb 12oz.
On Tuesday’s match Keith Noble made amends winning with 49lb
12oz from peg 32 using pole and pellet with Ted Ford landing the leading
weight in Friday’s match using bomb fished pellet off peg 36
putting 61lb 12oz on the scales.
On Sunday Mayfair Timber held their match on the strip pond where
J Wentworth was the top rod employing pole fished pellet on peg six
weighing 51lb 3oz.
Lodge Farm Round-Up
Vale AC fished Lily Pond on Saturday where Derek Meades ran out the
winner with 38lb 1oz using pole fished corn and maggot off peg 65.
On Sunday regular visitors Hodthorpe WMC were on the field pond where
pole and pellet was the winning method for Alan Hadfield on peg 25
weighing 16lb 1oz. Mick Pigwell claimed the runners up position with
8lb 1oz off peg 19 with Mick Peddle in third with 7lb 10oz off peg
24.
Bircotes AC were also at the Scrooby venue on Sunday fishing Signal
Pond where Martin Makin put together a winning weight of skimmers
weighing 26lb 8oz off peg 24 empolying pole fished pellet. Phil Morgan
netted 17lb 10oz for second off peg 32 with Garry White making up
the frame on peg six with 15lb 14oz.
Kiveton Park and Wales Colliery’s Ian Gingell won their event
on Long Island last Sunday using the groundbait feeder on peg 96 weighing
33lb 10oz.
Bill’s advice when fishing the two new ponds is to keep the
feed tight and fish hard on the deck, with the fish in Lily Pond and
Long Island coming shallow to regular loose feed.
He also informs us that skimmers in the top pond are in the deeper
water falling to winter tactics on groundbait and pinkie but in large
numbers with 25lb 10oz needed to win Hilltop match off peg 22 on Sunday.
Daiwa Hallcroft
Round-Up
Pole fished pellet or corn over a pellet feed is the top method in
all the matches at the Retford venue with Worksop AA’s Gordon
Gibson taking the top spot in Sunday’s open match from peg 15
on the Moat Pool netting 40lb 3oz.
On Monday venue expert Jamie Masson bagged 52lb 12oz of carp at 12
metres from peg 42 on reed pool to take the honours. With Ken Pacey
leading the field in Tuesday afternoons event held on bridge pool
landing 57lb 12oz from the margins of peg five.
The best match weight of the week fell to Andy Favill netting a bag
of carp and skimmers weighing 58lb 12oz in Wednesday’s open
on moat pool. Friday afternoon saw the matchmen on Croft where Mick
Hall had an all carp net of 55lb 6oz on peg seven.
Through the grapevine
Permits for Worksop United AA are now available from all local tackle
shops or on the bank from G.Barlow.
Starting on 24th May and running for 11 consecutive Wednesdays, Sherwood
Forest Farm Park will be running an afternoon open series on Holmedale
Lake. Entry fee is £20 with £12 pools for each match.
The draw takes place at the cabin at 1pm with fishing taking place
from 2pm to 8pm. They also hold open matches every bank holiday Monday,
Pools are £12 all in, draw 9am, to be fished 10 to 4pm. Call
