Pike Fishing
The pike is the top line predator on our stillwaters, rivers and canals. With its streamline shape and powerful tail fins it can generate amazing speed. Once caught - a fish has no chance, as the rows of needle-sharp teeth point backwards. Pike can grow to nearly 50lb, but all pike over 12lb are females. A great way to catch them in summer is to fish ‘surface plugs’ which hop and splash along the top of the water. You must use a wire trace or the pike will bite through the line. All tackle shops sell spinning traces.
Takes are amazing, the water just explodes. Pike fight like stink in summer. If you haven’t caught pike before go with a friend who has, as they are very difficult to unhook without damaging the fish and your hands!
