| The pike is the top line predator on our stillwaters, rivers and canals. With its streamline shape and powerful tail fins it can generate amazing speed. Once caught - a fish has no chance, as the rows of needle-sharp teeth point backwards. Pike can grow to nearly 50lb, but all pike over 12lb are females. | A great way to catch them in summer is to fish ‘surface plugs’ which hop and splash along the top of the water. You must use a wire trace or the pike will bite through the line. All tackle shops sell spinning traces. |

| Takes are amazing, the water just explodes. Pike fight like stink in summer. | If you haven’t caught pike before go with a friend who has, as they are very difficult to unhook without damaging the fish and your hands! |
