All you need to know ahead of new season

THIS week, we are responding to requests from readers of the column to give some information regarding local fisheries to help the up and coming season.

Day tickets at Ranskill’s Lakeside Fisheries are £4 for adults, with concessions at £2.50 per peg. Match bookings are £5, which includes the use of Lakeside’s keepnets and weighing in by the staff team.
The carp lake is £7 for 12 hours and £32 for the weekend with the trout lake £9 catch and release, £13 to take home your two fish and £20 for the first four.
The existing rules remain in place namely, barbless hooks only to a maximum size 12, no hemp or trout pellets, artificial baits or any nuts, and fly- fishing only on the trout lake.

The Riverside Fisheries at Scrooby are, as follows, day tickets £4 with concessions £3, but on 1st April prices will increase to £5 and £4 respectively, with match booking priced at £6 per peg.
The three lakes at the venue with a total of 76 pegs with the rules as follows, barbless hooks to a maximum size 12, no boilies, a maximum of two tins of catmeat, with blood worm allowed from 1st November to 1st April – Riverside feed pellets only.
There is a café and toilet facilities on site, and again the team will perform the weighing in on match bookings, for more information contact John on 01302 711889.

Next is the Lodge Farm Fishery at Scrooby Tops where Bill informs us that day tickets are £4 for adults with concessionary tickets for OAPs and juniors, but this will increase on 1st March to £5 and £4 respectively, with a £6 match booking fee which includes weighing in by the team.
Rules are no nuts, boilies, catmeat, dogmeat, fishery feed pellets only and barbless hooks to a maximum size 12.

Daiwa Hallcroft at Retford have over 400 pegs with cafeteria, toilets and shower room and touring caravan sites and tackle shop.
The rules are barbless hooks only to a maximum size 12, no boilies, no floating baits, fishery feed pellets only and a 2kg limit on ground bait and only two tins of catmeat.
Day tickets are £5 with £4.50 for OAPs and £4 for juniors, match bookings £5.50 with the team providing a weigh-in service.

At Sherwood Forest Farm Park near Mansfield, the prices are adult day tickets £5, OAPs £4 and juniors £3 with match booking fees of £5 per peg.
The rules are the usual barbless hooks to a maximum of size 12, no floating feed baits, no cat or dig meat, carp pellet only, no boilies, no braided line.

Just a reminder that at all commercial fisheries, the net dip must be used prior to commencing fishing.

Worksop and District AA provide fantastic value for money with over 200 pegs on the River Trent at Holme Marsh, Winthorpe, Footits Marsh and Ness Farm.
The prices are £3 per day for adults, £2.50 concessionaries with the £3 fee being applicable for match bookings – but £1.50 for affiliated clubs.
The same price is applicable at Torksey Arm, with Normanton on the tidal stretch of the Trent being £2 with £1 concessions, the match bookings are the same price – but reduced to £1 for afilliated clubs.
Chesterfield Canal is £2.50 per peg with match bookings the same but concessions prices are £1.50 for OAPs and juniors, and affiliated clubs are at a reduced rate of £1.50 per peg.
Sandhill Lake and Woodsetts Quarry pond are £3 per peg and £2 for an additional rod, with leisure pass holders paying £2.50 and OAPs and juniors paying £1.50.
There is a scheme from 5pm until dusk in the summer months for £2 for evening tickets and £1 for concessions.

Of course, you can pleasure fish any of these waters for free if you are a member of Worksop AA and hold a current book, but additional rod prices still apply.

On the day Roger will probably be fishing at the Easington Road end but it is notoriously bad for receiving mobile signals – so any queries on the day come down to the beach and ask.

LAKESIDE ROUND-UP
Saturday saw the latest Wickersley Angling Open match where two Dinnington rods claimed the top two positions.
1st Mick Donnelly, peg 29, 34 lb 12oz, silver fish on pole fished pinkie; 2nd Dave Wright, peg 19 24lb 4oz, silver fish pole and pinkie; 3rd Chris Day peg 25, 20lb 3oz.
Sunday saw DJ Angling hold their regular silver fish match on the second strip.
1st Geoff Armitage, peg eight, 25lb 8oz, caster on the top two sections of pole; 2nd Craig Sutton, peg four, 22lb 13oz; 3rd Roger Darlow, peg three, 22lb 6oz.
Mark Smith, of Worksop, struck gold on peg four on the strip pond where he netted 15 gold fish to 4lb, perch to 2lb 9oz and sizeable skimmers and roach, pole-fishing sweetcorn and chopped worm.
On the trout lake Mark Richardson netted himself an impressive rainbow of 12lb 4oz in his 18 fish haul casting various buzzers on a floating line. Chris Watson used pink fritz and intermediate line to net 13 fish to 5lb.

RIVERSIDE ROUND-UP
FIRST Monday’s rover – 1st Les Richmond, peg 6 strip pond, 31lb 5oz, small bomb and pellet; 2nd Mick Cook, peg 10 strip pond, 29lb 5oz, pole pellet and meat; 3rd John Moore, peg 1, strip pond, 20lb 12oz pole fished pellet and meat.
Tuesday’s open match on the main lake – 1st Geoff Bennett, peg 35, 41lb 3oz, bomb fished pellet; 2nd Brian Crowther, peg 16, 27lb 12oz, pole fished meat and pellet; 3rd Jamie Masson, peg 37, 26lb 12oz, silver fish on pole and pellet.

LODGE FARM ROUND-UP
The latest Gateford Angling Supplies Wednesday Open Lily Pond – 1st Geoff Mawby, peg 59, 20lb 5oz, wag and mag; 2nd Mick Pogson, peg 50, 19lb 8oz, wag and mag; 3rd Stuart Brumpton, peg 54 14lb, wag and mag.
Lodge Farm Winter League on the top pond saw Daz Godley top the field with 10lb 14oz of tench, skimmers and perch fishing the ground bait feeder from peg 12.
The pick of the matches on the venue from last week was the Walkley Winter League on Long Island and Lily Pond where 59lb 11oz took the honours from peg 59 on waggler fished corn presented shallow – with the south end towards the new pond side fishing best on Lily and Long Island.

SHERWOOD PARK ROUND-UP
With the temperature increase, the carp are on the move on Holmedale with pellet and sweetcorn fed sparingly producing reasonable catches and maggot accounting for silver fish.
Over on Sherwood Lake, the skimmer bream are falling for waggler fished maggot with Cavendish Lake producing lots of silver fish with roach falling to caster and the skimmers tempted by pellet.
On Maunside, pegs one to six are providing bites on most put ins with pole fished tumeric dusted maggot producing the most consistent sport.
There are still places available for the Spring Pairs series which starts on Sunday 25th March running for 10 consecutive Sundays, with the results being decided on a points basis with the best seven counting out of the 10.
The entry fee is £50 per pair with £20 pools required per individual for the first seven matches with the last three matches free of charge and the top three pairs winning a week’s holiday at White Acres at one of the angling festivals.
