Warning to owners of valuable angling tackle
WE start this week with what is unfortunately becoming an all to common occurrence
– tackle theft.
Richard, a reader of the column, has just had over £1,000 worth of tackle
stolen from his shed, only to find out that he is not insured for the loss.
We can only reiterate that it is important to make sure that your policy covers
all items and that you have a reasonably accurate description of your main items
of tackle – take photographs, keep receipts and make a log and make sure
that any out-building is as secure as it possibly can be by fitting appropriate
security locks and alarms.
We hope that this tale has a happy ending but we aren’t holding our breath,
Richard also wanted to know which is the best insurance policy around, so if any
of you have got a particularly good one please get in touch and we will pass it
on.
On a happier note, we can report that 5,000 silver fish have been introduced in
to the St. Peter’s Lane stretch of the Chesterfield Canal at Clayworth.
This was overseen by the canal manager Roger Marsh of Worksop and District AA.
The Clayworth stretch opposite the boats is already fishing exceptionally well
to bloodworm and joker, bread punch or pinkie over a light coloured ground bait
– thanks to canal bailiff Alex Roebuck for this information.
He also tells us that the Retford Town sections of the canal (particularly the
boat basin at the back of the fire station) is fishing well with a nine-year-old
lad and his father netting a 2.5lb bream and various silvers to 9oz.
Mick Pogson informs us that Ken Bradshaw, the baliff at Torksey Arm, reports that
before the floods, nets of roach to 60lb were being taken with the silver fish
being a little bit slower at the moment due to the high water levels.
If we get some settled weather before the end of the season it will be worth your
while taking the short trip for some silver fish action. For predator anglers
the arm is fishing exceptionally well for pike at the moment.
On the coastal front we received a call from Dave West who was fishing the north
beach at Yarmouth last Friday.
He had only been fishing for an hour and had five cod on the beach to 3lb. We
are still taking entries to our open beach rover to be held on Saturday 17th February,
so if you are interested give Roger a ring on the number at the top of the column.
We would like to send a belated 75th birthday message to popular Woodsetts/Sandhills
bailiff Fred Foster. Happy birthday Fred – enjoy your free TV licence.
