Pickersgill and Pressley take pairs league title
SUNDAY saw the final leg of the Gateford Angling Supplies / Worksop DAA winter
pairs mini series, which had attracted 17 pairs of anglers, taking place on Sandhill
Lakes and the final standings could not have been closer with only a single point
separating the top two pairs.
This was an exceptionally well run league and credit must go to Gordon Smith for
all his time and effort and to all the anglers taking part, especially for their
good humour and banter throughout, despite the harsh conditions on all three matches.
On the day, the wind howled through the lake for the entire match, but this did
not deter the anglers taking part with plenty of small fish and an added bonus
pike of 2.5lb taken on blood worm and joker by winner Steve Shepherd of Worksop
AA. Steve netted a total of 6lb from peg 33.
Runner-up was Simon McCormack of Notts AA who had an all-roach net of 3lb 3oz
fishing bloodworm and joker, with former junior world champion Matt Godfrey of
Worksop Angling Supplies netting 2lb 14oz using bloodworm and joker.
The pairs winners on the day were Simon McCormack and Johnny Johnson of Notts
AA with a perfect score of two points which gave them a total of 16 points to
claim third place in the series. Andy Lakey and Matt Godfrey claimed second with
14 points and the champions were Mark Pressley of Worksop DAA and Andrew Pickersgill
of Dynamite Baits, with 13.
Gordon Smith would like to thank Geoff Mawby of Gateford Angling Supplies for
his generous sponsorship of this series of matches, Worksop and District AA for
the use of their waters, Kim and Michael of Snak Attack café for their
hospitality and the use of their facilities for the draws, and everybody who took
part and made this event so successful.
Stuart Goulding, formerly of Go Baits, tells us there are more than 1,000 skimmers
will be introduced into Langold Lake in the middle of February.
They have not got the dates as yet but we will let you know as soon as they have
them.
There is also a group that is going to run a fishing project for kids in tandem
with the friends of Langold Lake. They have at last made some progress with the
lake and the council are allowing them to collect revenue to re-stock the lake
and conduct minor repairs.

just three degrees centigrade.
Jason started off on the straight lead cast to the island with pellet and corn

he changed to pole and pellet and had a further 20 carp (2lb) finishing with a
