THIS week we are looking at some of the more specialised disciplines of our sport, namely the sea fishing and fly casting scenes.
Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th March sees Bridlington hosting the largest competitons to be held in Europe with £25,000 in prize money up for grabs in the British Open beach match.
This competition is won on a biggest fish basis which gives every competitor a chance of winning with the Bassetlaw area boasting two senior winners, one junior winner and a ladies winner over the last few years.
The cost of entering is £15 per day or £25 for both days when pre-booked. For more information visit www.eastriding.gov.uk/bobc or call Paul Roggerman on 01482 391668.
Beach anglers in the Guardian area have the opportunity to have a practice for this event as we are holding another open match two weeks prior on 17th February where the tide states and times mimics the conditions for the event exactly.
To register you must contact Roger on the above number, fishing will be on a limited rover basis from Alderburgh to Spurn with fishing between 11am to 5pm with the weigh-in at The Crown and Anchor at Kilnsea between 5pm and 6pm with entry being a mere £2 pools with winner-takes-all for the biggest fish.
There are a number of coarse anglers interested in being seduced to the dark side – fly fishing – but don’t know how to get started and have little or no basic knowledge of game fishing.
Well we have got some good news for you. Rob Clarke who is an advanced game angling instructor can give hourly or daily tutition designed to increase your enjoyment.
Whether you are a complete novice or someone looking for improvement, Rob gives lessons on a one-to-one basis or in larger groups.
If you are purchasing any tackle from his shop Carillion at Hawksnest near Bawtry, he will customise your tackle to your particular style and capability.
On Thursday nights between 6.30pm and 9.30pm, Rob is holding fly tying lessons for a mere £5 per session which includes all materials and you get to take home the flies and use them on your next angling trip. For further details you can contact Rob on 01302 719933 during shop hours or 07967 635713.
