Last chance to catch Christmas pairs event

WE start this week with a reminder of a mini series which is being run by Worksop AA and sponsored by Geoff Mawby of Gateford Angling Supplies.
This series is a pairs competition with three matches taking place on Sundays on the Sandhills Lake in Worksop, on 10th December, 14th January and 28th January, with a £10 entry fee per pair to the league and £12 individual pools on each match.
With tickets already selling quickly we would advise an immediate response if you intend fishing this competition. There are no bait bans and blood worm and joker are allowed on this venue, so for further details or to register you can call Gordon on 01909 477399.
Another item of particular interest to all you predator anglers is that there is to be a charity pike match held on the Black Drain which runs alongside the A18 (old Scunthorpe Road) near Crowle, which many of you will have seen on your trips to the Stainforth and Keadby Canal.
This event is in aid of the Danum Cardio Club (British Heart Foundation) and takes place on Sunday 10th December with a £10 entry fee. It is a drawn peg match with a dead bait only hook bait and we are assured that this is prolific predator water.
The draw will take place at 8am and the fishing from 9am to 3pm. For more information contact Rikky Clarke on 01405 813025 or George Martindale on 01405 815939.
Finally we would just like to wish the Worksop and District AA senior squad all the best in their quest to qualify for the Angling Times Winter League semi-final on Sunday on the Grafton AA waters on the Chesterfield Canal.
Gordon, Mark and the lads are in equal first with the Daiwa Trentmen and just one point ahead of the Middy Matchmen Supplies with only the top two teams qualifying. Good luck lads.

LAKESIDE ROUND-UP
LAST Saturday saw the Walkley Winter League take all the pegs on both the match lake and strip ponds where the first strip proved to be the place to draw producing the top three weights.

DAIWA HALLCROFT ROUND-UP
THERE is a change to the Thursday Open which is now a Thursday Silverfish match. For all weekday matches the draw is 9.30am, fishing 10.30am-3.30pm. Weekend matches remain the same.
The best match weight of the week to fall at the Retford venue went to Pete Bagshaw who bomb fished corn over to the island to take carp to 5lb in his 101lb 2oz net off outer peg 25 on the Moat Pool in the open match on Saturday 11th November. The silver fish are now falling to the more traditional baits of maggot, cater or blood worm and joker fished on the long pole. Andy Favill used this method with caster hookbait to top the field on Monday’s match on the Bridge Pool, Andy weighed 50lb 12oz of carp and skimmers from peg 18 on the outer.
On the Croft Pool pellet still rules the roost with Daz Oldham putting together a winning bag of stokie carp weighing in at 62lb 8oz from peg 20 using pole fished pellet at 13 metres in last Tuesday’s open event.

THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE
FOLLOWING on the back of last week’s column, young Thomas Davenport had his first attempt at winter sea fishing last Saturday and despite gale force winds that saw all anglers driven from the beaches to the South Pier at Bridlington, Thomas managed to catch eight fish of four different species. Not a bad first trip.
