
Festive dates for your angling
MERRY Christmas to all our readers, and here’s a quick reminder
of the festive fishing fun on offer over the coming days.
The beach match is on 6th January and if you have not booked on it yet,
contact Roger on the above number asap.
Other matches to put in your diary; the Riverside at Scrooby are holding
an open match on Boxing Day, contact John on 01302 711889 for details.
Kiveton Waters are holding a mini-series over the festive period starting
tomorrow, for more information contact Wayne or Colleen on 07789 954452.
As far as we are aware, all of the local fisheries are open over the
holiday period (except Christmas and New Year’s days).
We will be announcing the results of the Fish of the Year competition
next week.
Finally, we would like to thank all the contributors to the column and
those who have made donations to any of our causes throughout the year.
CLUB RESULTS
RESULT from the latest Worksop United Permit Holders match which took
place on 16th December: 1st R. Lamb 8lb 10oz peg four chub caught on
maggot; 2nd P. Brown 5lb 15oz peg two carp caught on maggot; 3rd S.
Coupe 3lb 3oz peg 13 skimmers. On behalf of Worksop United Angling Club,
Rob wishes all the anglers who attended their permit holders matches,
a merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
Wales and Kiveton Park Colliery results; 9th December, a match fished
on the Chesterfield Canal at Kiveton Park. The club put 3,000 fish in
on the 3rd December, mainly roach and bream. Pete Gleadon caught both
in his six pounds and Kevin Smith lost some good carp.
The baits used were bloodworm, joker, worm and castor. 1st Pete Gleadon
6lb 08oz; 2nd Dave Hooper 5lb 01oz; 3rd Kevin Smith 4lb 12oz.
The club are continuing with matches over the Xmas and new year week-ends
Draw at 8.15 in the Station Pub car park.
You cannot fault the members of the Greyhound AC for their endeavour
in fishing a variety of venues.
The main natural waters are the club’s first choice and with this
in mind they made the journey over to Lincolnshire to tackle the Fossdyke
Navigation at Saxilby last Saturday.
1st Russ Brown 6lb 3oz peg one perch up to 2lb 8oz in his net taken
on pinkie on the whip; 2nd Brett Northage Jnr 4lb 6oz peg five silver
fish on pole fished pinkie; 3rd Brett Northage Snr 3lb 14oz peg six
silver fish on pole fished pinkie.
LAKESIDE ROUND-UP
THE best match weight of the week fell to Carl Sweatnam in Wickersley
Angling’s open match on Saturday when he put 38lb 8oz on the scales
off peg 29 employing pole fished maggot and corn.
On Sunday, DJ Angling held a match on the second strip pond where Alan
Barcroft topped the field with a net of gold and silver fish that took
the dial around to 28lb 30z off peg six using pole and pellet.
Pleasure angler Graham Harper of Worksop landed a 50lb+ net of carp
and silvers using a maggot feeder with a worm hookbait from the first
strip pond.
On the carp lake, John Thomson banked three fish to 21lb 6oz from peg
three and over on the trout lake, fly caster Andy Harrison caught nine
fish too 10lb on cats whisker and intermediate line.
Also enjoying the good sport was Alf Appleby casting a pink fritz and
intermediate line to take an 11-fish haul.
RIVERSIDE ROUND-UP
THE best match weight of the week at the Scrooby venue fell on the main
lake in Fridays open. 1st John Moore 54lb 11oz peg 14; 2nd Ian Temple
25lb 6oz peg 38.
Tuesday’s match on the strip pond and sandmartins was a close
affair with the top weight coming off the strip pond. 1st Jamie Masson
strip pond 40lb 60z peg four; 2nd Geoff Bennett sandmartins 39lb 10oz
peg seven.
LODGE FARM ROUND-UP
THE latest round of the Gateford Angling Supplies Winter League took
place last Sunday on Lily Pond in cold and bright conditions. 1st Stuart
Brumpton 23lb 13oz peg 70 maggot feeder; 2nd Richard Hardy 20lb 12oz
peg 58 mag and wag; 3rd M. Hadfield 18lb 9oz peg 57 maggot feeder.
Also on Sunday, the fourth round of the Lodge Farm Winter League was
held on the top pond. 1st D. Frost 13lb 6oz peg 27 feeder with a maggot
hookbait; 2nd P. Martin 12lb 7oz peg 43; 3rd B. Taylor 9lb 2oz peg 33.
Bill informs us that the new stock fish (Ide, skimmers and carp) that
have been introduced to the Signal Pond, are still responding to pellet
and maggot fished on the deck on most pegs.
