WE start this week with news of a local pairs winter league which is
being organised by Gordon Smith of Worksop AA on Sandhills Lake sponsored
by Geoff Mawby of Gateford Angling Supplies.
There will be three Sunday matches starting on 10th December followed
by 14th January and the final one on 28th January.
Entry fee for this mini series is £10 per pair with individual
pools of £12 per person on each match. For further details contact
Gordon on 01909 477399. There are no bait bans and blood worm and joker
are allowed.
CLUB RESULTS
HATFIELD Arms and the Peg 31 of Dinnington held a winter league match
on 29th October in warm and sunny conditions on the Chesterfield canal
between Greys Bridge and St Peter’s Lane.
Results: 1st Kev Simpson 5lb 1oz peg 15 roach on pole fished bread punch;
2nd Craig Crosby 3lb 9oz peg 11 roach on pole fished blood worm; 3rd
Chris Crosby 3lb 4oz peg four roach on pole fished blood worm.
Twenty-one members of the Worksop Angling Supplies Batchelors Angling
Club made the trip to the Candy Corner Fisheries where they tackled
the AJs pond on Sunday 29th October.
1st Sean Batty 48lb 12oz peg one pole/pellet for carp; 2nd Kevin Chantry
37lb 0oz peg 10 pole/pellet for carp; 3rd Mick Eshelby 31lb 6oz peg
12 pole/pellet for carp.
Results from the first winter open match on the Kiveton Stretch of the
Chesterfield canal last Saturday were: 1st Matthew Godfrey (Worksop
Angling Supplies) 8lb 2oz. 2nd Joe Flynn (Kiveton Club) 4lb 4oz; 3rd
John Smith (Wales and Kiveton Park Colliery) 3lb 15oz.
The open matches will be weekly from 18th November with the draw in
the Station car park at 8am.
Two matches to report on from the lads at the Greyhound AC, both taking
place on the Newark Dyke. The first match was at Stainforth on 22nd
October.
1st Alan Sargeson 11lb 4oz peg 22 using the stick float and maggot for
bream and roach; 2nd Dave Robinson 5lb 14oz peg 30 stick float; 3rd
Adam Jackson 4lb 6oz peg 12 using the feeder.
The second match of the league campaign took place last Saturday on
the Crow Trees section where the anglers found the dyke running low
and clear and the fish present in small pockets.
1st Russ Brown 10lb 12oz peg 13 stick float maggot and caster; 2nd Cliff
Brailsford 8lb 10oz peg 15 stick float; 3rd Dave Robinson and Mark O’
Sullivan both with 5lb (Dave Robinson landed a chub of 4lb 12oz).
LAKESIDE ROUND-UP
THE Ranskill venue is still fishing exceptionally well with pole fished
maggot or castor being the chosen method for taking mixed bags on Saturday.
On Sunday, Archie Brook won the Mark Homes Winter League off peg six
with another mixed net weighing 40lb 3oz this time using bomb fished
meat. On the strip lakes, pleasure angler Alex Davies presented a meat
ball or sweet corn hook bait to take an 80lb+ net of carp, goldfish,
tench and roach.
On the carp lake, Steve Booth landed four fish, the best a common of
20lb 2oz from peg three using boilie hookbait.
On the trout lake, 15 fish graced the net of Steve Jackson the best
fish in this catch an impressive rainbow of 9lb using various buzzers
and floating line and John Dawson banked 18 rainbows to 4lb casting
a yellow diddy on a floating line.
LODGE FARM ROUND-UP
THE latest round of the Gateford Angling Winter League took place at
the Scrooby Tops venue last Sunday on the Lily Pond.
1st Richard Hardy 42lb 9oz peg 52 sweetcorn on the waggler; 2nd Steve
Laden 17lb 4oz peg 57 pole and maggot; 3rd Mick Simpson 16lb 15oz peg
70 maggot feeder.
The first round of the Lodge Farm Winter League was held on the top
pond last Sunday. 1st Adam Wake 18lb 15oz peg 46 skimmers and perch
pole and pinkie; 2nd Dave Frost 10lb 3oz peg 45; 3rd Paul Martin 8lb
14oz peg 34.
The Long Island produced a winning net of 45lb 7oz in the Browning Leegems
event on Sunday where good weights showed all around the lake and of
the field, the best match weight was 51lb 6oz of carp skimmers, chub
and barbell taken on pole fished worm from the in-form peg two.
RIVERSIDE ROUND-UP
IN the open match on Tuesday, 1st John Moore 27lb 11oz peg 10 meat;
2nd Jeff Bennett 27lb 5oz peg 33 pole and pellet.
The results of Friday’s open match: 1st Les Richmond 28lb 7oz
peg 32 using the worm on the pole; 2nd Reg Turner 27lb 5oz peg 38 using
the pole and pellet method.
And in the Saturday open match at the Riverside venue: 1st Keith Riddle
27lb 14oz peg 36 using the pole and pellet method; 2nd Les Richmond
25lb 12oz peg four worm on the pole.
