Nottingham News
WINTER is soon upon us, and with the nights drawing in and the results
thinning out, we started thinking about what we would be putting in
the column over the coming months.
One thing that is close to our hearts is the excellent clubs that run
in our area and the benefits of membership.
What we are proposing to do over the coming months is to profile some
of the local clubs in our area, the benefits of membership, the cost,
a short history and any amusing anecdotes from the past.
So, would club secretaries or officials get in touch with any details
that are relevant or amusing and we will do our best to put them across.
We are certain that although the numbers of local clubs may have diminished
over the last few years, there is still a quality in this area that
cannot be matched anywhere else in the country.
We would like to remind you that the Bluebell Wood Hospice/Bassetlaw
Hospital Children’s Ward charity match to be held on 4th November
is filling quickly.
We would urge you to register ASAP if you are considering fishing this
event as we are limited to pegs and it will avoid disappointment.
On a similar vein, the junior event at Riverside on 26th October is
filling rapidly. This event is totally free thanks to John’s generosity.
It is an ideal opportunity to improve your skills or try your hand at
the sport if you have fancied having a go but never had the chance.
On the day we have a number of qualified NFA coaches attending, as well
as local venue experts who will offer coaching and advice if required.
To register for either event contact us on either of the above numbers
or email us – but please remember that if you are over 12 years
of age you must be in possession of a valid rod licence on the day.
We would like to wish good luck to all the youngsters fishing the NJAA
National on the Chesterfield canal along the Hop Pole to Wiseton stretch
tomorrow.
In all, there are three teams of six in the junior event representing
Worksop who are being generously sponsored by Worksop Angling Supplies
and one team of four in the intermediates.
Best of luck to you all and we know that you will be a credit to the
association and the town.

last Saturday where Tony Blackman topped the field with an all silver
fish net of 37lb 8oz off peg 4.
On Sunday Mal Williams weighed a mixed net of 63lb 11oz to lead the
way in Wadsley Bridge AC’s match using pole fished caster on peg

RIVERSIDE ROUND UP
The best match weight to fall at the Scrooby venue was to les Richmond
in last Tuesday’s match on the main lake.
Les pole fished meat shallow from peg 36 putting 86lb 12oz on the scales,
but later on in the week at Friday’s open match on the main lake
Keith Noble fished pellet hard on the deck to take a winning weight
of 52lb 9oz from peg 36, the fish being probably lower in the water
due to colder nights.
On Sandmartins, it was a similar story, with meat shallow winning matches
in the early part of the week but pellet fished on the deck taking the
honours later in last Saturday’s open.
LODGE FARM ROUND-UP
Saturday saw the final of the angling star aggregate points league fished
on Long Island, Lily and Signal Ponds where last year’s winner
Pete Morley topped the field again with 63lb 6oz taken on pole and pellet
fished shallow or floating bread taken off peg 92 on Long Island.
In a tight finish Pete’s son Andrew Morley was a very close second
with 63lb 1oz taken off peg 57 on Lily Pond with Chris Lee weighing
52lb 6oz for third taken again off Long Island and Simon Foster in fourth
position with 49lb 9oz taken from peg 45 on Signal.
SHERWOOD ROUND-UP
On the Holmedale Lake, the Wednesday Fun League Open was fished, and
Worksop’s Steve Shepherd was top rod.
He was late for the draw and the only peg left in the bag was his favourite
peg at the venue.
Setting up the method feeder casting to the island and pole for fishing
the margin, he started fishing feeder and meat up to and after the first
hour. It was a carp every cast out having over 40 fish - 4lb till the
last hour a change to the pole for four more to 8lb .
In second place with 123lb 15oz Dave Madin returning back to fishing
after a six month break babysitting, pegged at unfancied 47 doing what
he does best, turning it into a flyer fishing pole meat and pellet long
up to the island. He had just 20 carp to 8lb.
Tuesday on the Sherwood Lake saw Jim Strachan win from Neil Wilkinson,
both of Sherwood Forest Fishery.
Jim fished pole out at 13m on soft pellet over pellet for skimmers -
1lb and with the carp failing to show his gamble paid off, putting 35
fish in the net and finishing with 4lb to spare over Neil.
Next week’s draw is at 12noon at the cabin, £10.

THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE
Worksop AA struggled in their defence of the Trent Valley Angling Times
Winter League, where the opening match took place at the Amber Gravel
pits last Sunday.
On the day the lads slipped to joint third place with Lincs County behind
Daiwa Trent men in first and middy matchmen in second place, but congratulations
must go to Garry Doddsworth and Dave Powell who both gained section
wins.
