Matt makes captain

WE would like to start this week by offering congratulations to Worksop junior squad member Matt Godfrey on his appointment to the captaincy of the England junior squad, which are fishing the world championships in Portugal in September.
Matt began his road to international angling within the ranks of the WDAA and his latest honour is in addition to the individual and team gold he won last year in Croatia. So well done to Matt and to his parents Kev and Andrea for all their support and his sponsor Greg Forester of Worksop Angling supplies.
Worksop’s junior team coach Glenn Foulds commented that: “he is a credit to the Association, to his parents and everybody associated with junior angling in the area.”
If any youngster out there aged nine to 16 is wishing to follow in Matt’s footsteps you can join the WDAA juniors by contacting Garry or Doreen Butt on 01909 770546.
According to the WDAA the recent hot weather has resulted in a bloom of blue/green algae on Sandhill’s lakes. Most of you will already know the dangers this poses – under no circumstances must anyone swim in these conditions and if you are angling then please be vigilant and reduce contact to a minimum wiping or washing hands througherly after contact. There are growing fears that fish are being removed from Sandhills and possibly other Worksop waters for the consumption.
Many of you who read the national angling press will realize that this is a growing problem, so please be vigilant and pass on any information to the Association via bailiffs Roger Green or Fred Foster or contact either of us from this column and we will make sure it is passed on to the relevant authoritys.

The annual Holme Church charity match is upon us again and is being fished double pegged on the Holme Marsh.
