If your appetite has been whetted by the Guardian Inter Schools Open
Championships, hosts Daiwa Hallcroft are running a series of junior
matches every Tuesday throughout the summer holidays.
Also there are still tickets for the Worksop AA Triathlon event available
from all local tackle shops. Even though the first match has been fished,
don’t let it deter you as there are prizes for all competitors.
SCHOOLS ROUND-UP
Redlands School held their annual fishing match at Godfrey’s Pond
this week.
It was the 26th year, 25 of which had been sponsored by David Slater,
who sadly passed away earlier in the year.
In honour of his memory, Mr Pogson, President of the Worksop Angling
Society, presented the winner with the David Slater Memorial Shield,
which will be awarded annually and displayed at Redlands School. Mr
Pogson also very kindly provided the runners-up with trophies.
The winner was Zion Smith with a catch of 3lbs 9oz, first runner-up
was Liam Marsh with 3lbs 3oz, second runner-up was Owen Shutt with 2lbs
2oz.
Portland School held a match during their activity week last Wednesday
at the Carvale pond at Bolsover where Thomas Davenport fished the margins
on chopped worm and caster on peg 15 for a winning weight of 18lb 15oz.
In second spot was Drew Raynor who also fished chopped worm and caster
tipped off with a fluro pinkie on the long pole for second and Jake
Craven claimed third.
CLUB RESULTS
Four members of Worksop Piscatorials fished Royston Lake on Sunday 16th
July, where top weight was Andy Lakey with 34lb 11oz.
In second was Roy Houtby weighing 28lb 7oz, in third was Mark Pressley
with 26lb 5oz, Tony Payne was 4th with 22lb 3oz followed by Jack Woodhead
with 21lb 4oz.
The next match is on Sunday 27th August at Sandhill Lake, names to Secretary
as soon as possible.
Worksop United held their latest match on their own waters on the Chesterfield
canal at Bracebridge on Sunday where the club secretary Rob Allen put
a winning bag of skimmers together weighing 12lb 2oz from peg 6 using
pole fished pellet.
Roy Houtby fished worm on the next peg 7 with a tench, eel and skimmer
net of 8lb 11oz and Malc Rushton made up the frame with a maggot caught
net of roach weighing 5lb 9oz off peg 12.

The anglers of the British Gas AC had a busy couple of days last week,
fishing Royston Waters on the Thursday and the top pond at Lodge Farm
on the Saturday.
Alan Hatfield led the way in Thursday’s match fishing floating
biscuit or bread on peg 6 weighing 45lb 8oz just squeezing out Pete
Brown into second place on peg 24 with a net of 39lb 8oz employing floating
pole and pellet.
Steve Pogson was third with 28lb 10oz of paste caught carp from peg
10.
On the Saturday in the Geoff Barker memorial shield match Mick Drage
took the honours with a net of skimmers weighing a very creditable 40lb
9oz taken on peg 37 using pole fished pellet.
Steve Pogson netted 23 lb 14oz to claim the runners-up position off
peg 40 with Mick Pogson landing 21lb 5oz off peg 32 for third and Nigel
Barret in fourth with 16lb 4oz from peg 43 – all using the same
method as the winner.
The members of St Josephs fished a new venue for the club last Sunday,
the Horseshoe Lakes at Wales, where the vast majority of the anglers
found the going tough due to the deluge of cold dirty water from Saturday
storms.
This did not deter the in-form Ray Ancliffe from putting a winning net
of 29lb 7oz on the scales from peg 7 employing pole fished pellet with
Craig Crosby well behind in second place with 15lb 4oz off the next
peg 8 using pole-fished pellet and paste and Bonnie Betteridge claiming
third with 8lb 14oz off peg 20.
The Station Hotel AC made the long journey last Saturday to Boddington’s
reservoir where Kev Seeley put 109lb 2oz on the scales from peg 98 using
the method feeder and white boilies.
Claiming second position was Martin Spencer with 95lb 5oz using the
method feeder and the bagging waggler from peg 62 making up the frame
was Mark Tierney off peg 97 weighing 90lb, using the same method as
the winner.
LODGE FARM ROUND UP
In Thursday’s Parkinsons charity match held last Thursday afternoon
on Field pond, Daz Godley ran out the winner breaking the lake record
with 91lb 2oz from peg 35 employing pole fished pellet and luncheon
meat shallow for carp and skimmers.
In the runner-up position was Marcus Orrit with 78lb 6oz from peg 14,
and making up the frame was Andy Lakey with 61lb 11oz from peg 25.
On Saturday, a new Field pond record was smashed yet again by Brian
Serles of Tight Lines Sheffield with 123lb 4oz fishing pole pellet and
luncheon meat shallow.
On Saturday the Cannon AC were the visitors to Lily Pond where Gerald
Booth fished pole and bread punch for a winning weight of 78lb 9oz from
peg 54.
Just one fish behind was Mark Pettinger from peg 57 with 76lb and in
third spot was Tommy Davey with 57lb 12oz from peg 72.
Over on top pond on Saturday, Dinnington AC were the visitors where
Tony Britton used groundbait feeder and pellet from peg 4 for a winning
weight of 26lb 5oz.
A close second was Ian Barnett with 25lb 7oz from peg 7 and Geoff Clarke
filling the frame from peg 20 with 21lb 3oz.
On Sunday, the visitors to Lily Pond were Thorsby AC where Mitch Hutchinson
found the carp obliging to weigh in 87lb 10oz from peg 69 using pole
and maggot for a win.
In next peg 68 Paul Wilson weighed in a creditable 81lb 14oz for second
and Martin Elliott third with 61lb 7oz from peg 70.
Another notable weight has come from Long Island pond where John Bennett
fished the floating groundbait feeder and pellet for a weight of 107lb
13oz from peg 85.
LAKESIDE ROUND UP
The best match weight of the week to fall on the Ranskill venue was
in the Dunholme AC event on Sunday where Jeff Haighton managed 78lb
9oz from peg 29 employing pole fished pellet and corn.
On the Saturday Tuxford WMC were the visitors when Brian Butler put
a winning net of carp and silvers together on peg 30 weighing 42lb 6oz
using corn or pellet just ahead of Ian Black on peg 29 with 41lb 4oz
Kev Cresswell weighing 38lb 9oz on peg 36.
On the strip ponds Nigel Brown landed over 200lb of carp and goldfish
floating the pole over to the far bank reeds with a chum mixer or a
bread hook bait.
On the carp lake Paul Booth landed two 20s in his eight fish haul off
peg 1 with Shane Tomlinson netting ten fish to 22lb 4oz from peg 4.
Over on the trout lake Worksop’s Ray Purseglove banked 24 rainbows
to 4lb using green damsel and floating line, with Brian Simmons of Langwith
netted 21 to 3lb on hairs ear or black nymph floating line.
RIVERSIDE ROUND UP
Last Monday’s match on the strip pond was won by Alan Wordsworth
with 53lb5oz using the feeder.
Tuesdays match on Sand Martins saw the pond record fall to Matt Temple
with a weight of 112lb 14oz on peg 10 employing pole fished paste. The
members of the Comrades A C of Harworth fished on Rickys lake on Wednesday
where Paul Brazier took the honours with a weight of 38lb 12oz using
pole fished corn on peg 26 beating Les Richmond into second place with
a net of 35lb 6oz. Thursday evenings three hour sprint was won by Glen
Greasley with 46lb 9oz using corn on peg 2 with Matt Temple in the runners
up position landing 33lb 12oz on peg 10.
Whitwell’s new middle club’s members had a match to remember
on Sunday on rickys when Mark Allison put 110lb 15oz on the scales fishing
pellet and corn with Roy Davis in the runners-up spot with a level 49lb
using pole fished pellet.
DAIWA HALLCROFT ROUND-UP
The best match weight of the week from the moat pool fell to Gordon
Gibson of Worksop AA who put 81lb 7oz on the scales from peg 59 fishing
cat meat over pellet at four metres in Friday afternoon’s match.
In Tuesday afternoon’s match on bridge pool Steve Barraclough
led the way with 52lb 14oz off island peg 4 made up of three carp and
the rest skimmer bream, pole fishing pellet and meat shallow at 11 metres.
On reed pool, Monday’s open was won by John Cunliffe with a weight
of 46lb 8oz of carp fishing pellet up in the water at eleven metres
on peg 37.
SHERWOOD ROUND UP
For the first time, anglers phoned to say they won’t be coming
to fish the Summer Series Open on Wednesday because it was going to
be too hot – but the anglers that did brave the heat had a good
time.
Pete Ellis has drawn peg 51 three times this year and the outcome has
been the same, winning all three.
He fished pole and pellet out at 12m for the first hour without a bite,
a change to fishing corn down the margin brought instant success in
the way of a 6lb mirror carp, then it was no looking back, having over
30 carp – 8lb steady throughout the rest of the match finishing
with a total of 106lb 4oz.
Second-placed Dean didn’t have a bite in the first half of the
match but when the carp moved over his pellets it was a fish every put
in, fishing pole and paste down the margin he had a nice net of carp
7lb.
THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE
Over at Harlesthorpe Dam at Clowne, Ian Hartley of Leeds decided to
have an afternoon’s fishing after a morning’s work in the
area where he banked nine double figure carp with the help of the venue
owner Carol Sibring.
Alex Roebuck and Roger Marsh of Worksop and District AA inform us that
the weed that has been hampering the associations lengths of the Chesterfield
Canal is beginning to subside and also there have been some very good
nets of bream taken from the Clayworth area.
