Busy week...

IT HAS been a busy week for all anglers in and around the Worksop/Notts area but we start this week with a couple of matches from either end of the age range that we have been flagging up over the last weeks.
First was the senior citizen’s match that was held on Sandhills last Tuesday that was run in conjunction with the Bassetlaw festival.
Twenty-five brave souls stuck out hot and humid conditions which obviously had a massive effect on the fishing, however Mick Hill managed to put a respectable 6lb 4oz on the scales by presenting worm fished on the pole at full depth off peg 69 to take a variety of fish including roach skimmers and perch.
Second place went to Keith Fretwell who persevered on the feeder with worm or maggot hookbait to take a bream and skimmer net of 5lb 14oz to push Ron Chamberlain in to third with 4lb 14oz from peg 71.
It was also worth noting that there was a considerable number of large fish that were hooked and lost, proving as we suspected that Sandhills has still the potential to throw up good weights given the right conditions.
A big thank you and plenty of respect from us to Mick Pogson for all the hard work he has put in to this not only on the day but also prior to the match clearing and strimming pegs, as well as Roger Green, Tony Payne and Derek Brown.
The next match was also held at Sandhill in hot conditions but at least this time there was a little more breeze putting a ripple on the water for the first round of the Worksop and District AA Triathlon.
The match was split into two age groups first in the 13 to 15 age range was Tommy Davenport who fished worm and caster to good effect to take a net of skimmers and a solitary eel of 2lb to make up a weight of 9lb 5oz.
Second place went to Josh Wilde with 5lb 9oz, a close third was Reece Nicholson with 5lb 9oz and fourth Thomas Hunt with 4lb 6oz.
In the under 12s, Devon Whitworth was a clear winner with a weight of 6lb 14oz with Shannon Fairhurst second with 3lb 2oz edging Joel Potts in to third with 3lb and Ryan Williamson in fourth with 2lb 9oz.
It is fair to say that all the young anglers had an enjoyable day with everyone catching fish and weighing in.
Mick Pogson has informed us that that a working party from Worksop AA has cleared and strimmed the pegs on the Normanton length of the tidal Trent and it is fishing extremely well for Bream and Barbel – don’t forget to take your camera and send us the pictures.
