Congratulations

CONGRATULATIONS to all the young anglers representing Worksop & DAA and especially the Cadet squad (10-12-year-olds) for an outstanding performance on last Saturday’s NFA National on the Bridgewater canal at Warrington.
The fishing was extremely difficult and would have tested older more experienced anglers with small fish taken on squat rigs being the target option.
The cadets managed to secure third position for a team bronze with young starlet Devon Whitworth claiming sixth in the individual competition. Team coach Doreen Butt and all the parents praised the youngsters on their accomplishment and would like to thank Ken Ward for sponsoring the squad and providing all the bait.
The junior squad failed in their attempt to retain the title but the two teams managed a creditable ninth and 10th on waters that were alien to the majority of the team members, however hats off to Marc Playforth for winning his 24-peg section and young Danny Parkin who only turned 13 on the week prior to the match and claimed third in his section.
The Worksop junior successes are partly due to the expert tuition by qualified coaches that is available in this area and the opportunity to hone their skills on the many competitions available such as the Triathlon and the British Waterway canal match. On which note we will take the opportunity to remind you that today is the last opportunity to enter this year’s Triathlon with the first match taking place on Sandhills lake tomorrow.
This is a well-sponsored series of matches with guaranteed prizes for all competitors well in excess of the £3 entry fee, plus you get the added bonus of appearing in this column if successful.
