TICKETS for the Junior Triathlon

TICKETS for the Junior Triathlon, an excellent competition for juniors to get a taste of match fishing, are available now priced at just £3 and can be purchased at any of the town’s tackle shops.
The three matches start on 15th July and are all held in Worksop on the Sandhill Lake and The Grafton stretch of the canal which has been kindly donated by the club. The presentation night, when all entrants will receive a prize, is held at The Innings.
We would encourage all parents to support their kids to enter this event, there are different age categories, 10-12-year-olds and 13-to-15-year-olds and it doesn’t matter if they are new to the sport as there are plenty of CRB coaches around to offer advice as well as first aiders and full safety precautions offering the safest environment available.
At the other end of the age spectrum is the pensioners’ match which is to be held on Sandhill Lake on 11th July with tickets priced £5 (100 per cent pay out as Worksop AA is donating the water free).
This event is open to all senior citizens including none book holders and is being supported by Bassetlaw Council in conjunction with the Worksop and District AA and promises to be another belter now that the lake is starting to produce good weights.
Entry to the Guardian Open Schools tournament at Hallcroft is now closed and we have a total of 10 teams from seven schools taking part. We have gained support from a lot of different agencies including sporting chance, the education authority and the promise of sponsorship from various people and organisations as well as the Guardian who are putting up individual and team trophies and will be giving full coverage of the event.
The Worksop DAA length of the Chesterfield canal is fishing exceptionally well for pleasure anglers especially around Wiseton and Clayworth, reports the bailiff Alex Roebuck. Good tench, bream perch and chub are showing to traditional hook baits and as you can see from Alex’s photos there is a wide variety of other species to be taken.
Finally we would like to wish all the youngsters representing Worksop DAA at cadet, junior and intermediate level all the best of luck at the NFA junior nationals being held on the Bridgewater canal at Warrington tomorrow and to say a big thank you to Geoff Mawby of Gateford Angling for supplying all the bait free of charge for the match.
