RESULTS
WELL, the summer season is in full swing and the weights in the match
reports and pleasure nets reflect the improved conditions.
And with the carp just about finished spawning things can only get better.
It was a privilege to witness the impressive talents of the youngsters
fishing the British Waterways/Grafton match last Friday night.
Our own club St Joseph’s fished the same length the following
day and could not match the weights of the junior anglers who were fishing
a three-hour sprint.
In the twelve and under category, J. Wharam ran out the winner off end
peg 90 with 2.9 kilos, just edging out D. Parkin in to second place
with 2.65 kilos off next peg 91 and P. Davies in third spot with .850
kilos from peg 92.
In the thirteen to fifteen-year-old bracket, J. Goulding landed 8.96
kilos using pole fished bronze maggot on peg 107 to take the top spot.
T. Davenport took the runners-up position with 7.52 Kilos from peg 99
and third was Mark Playforth with 5.76 Kilos from peg 108.
Thanks go to the organisers Grafton A.A. and the sponsors Ken Wards
Sports and everyone else who turned up on the night to help with and
support this event.
At the other end of the age spectrum, the OAPs match is being run in
conjunction with the Bassetlaw Festival and is set to take place on
the Sandhill Lakes on the 11th July.

CLUB RESULTS
BRITISH Gas fished Royston water near North Scarle last Thursday, where
Ron Wynn pole fished paste on peg 4 to put a fine winning net of 57lb
2oz on the scales.
Mick Pogson fished using the same method on peg 22, claiming second
place with 47lb 6oz and Tony Payne finished in third position with a
fine roach and rudd net of 37lb 2oz.off peg 23.
The Worksop United members fished their latest match on Sunday on the
Weirfield stretch of the River Trent.
P. Martin netted 8 bream in his winning bag of 35lb 2oz with a red maggot
hook bait off peg 7 with G. Barlow claiming second spot landing three
bream weighing 16lb 2oz on peg 5 using pellet hookbait.
M. Allen finished third with 2 bream weighing 10lb 8oz with a luncheon
meat hook bait on peg 4.
Rob would also like to let the members know that he needs names for
the club’s next match on the 9th July.
Hatfield Arms of Laughton fished the Greys Bridge section of the Chesterfield
canal last Sunday, where all the anglers weighed in despite the canal
suffering from an explosion of weed growth.
J. Simpson took the honours pole fishing maggot on peg 20 to bag a winning
weight of 5lb 13oz of silver fish.
R. Kendall fished using the same method on peg 1 to fall just behind
with 5lb 9oz and C. Stevenson made up the frame with a level 5lb off
peg 13 using pole fished worm.
Manton A.C. made the short journey to Lodge Farm last Saturday, where
they fished the Lily Pond in overcast conditions.
Clifford Jackson fished the floating pole with a pellet hook bait to
run out the winner with 48lb 8oz with P. Wilson claiming the runners-up
position with 29lb 9oz, just squeezing out Stuart Coupe with 29lb 7oz.
Section winners were Neil Richards and Melvin Morris.
Worksop Piscatorials fished the Duck Pond at North Scarle on Sunday
June 25th.
Winner was Terry Evans with a catch of 37lb 3oz of carp, caught using
paste on the pole.
Second was Tony Smith with 20lb 15oz of carp using worm. Mick Pogson
also used worm to catch 17lb 6oz also carp for third place.
Section winners were Mark Pressley with 11lb 11oz and Roy Houtby with
10lb 14oz of carp as well.
The next match is on Sunday 16th July at Royston North Scarle –
names to secretary as soon as possible
The members of St Joseph’s A.C. fished the John Shaw’s section
of the Chesterfield canal, where Ray Ancliffe netted 12lb 9oz of chub
from peg 109 using pole fished maggot.
In second place from peg 106 was Bonny Betteridge weighing in 11lb 7oz
fishing worm and maggot on the pole and third place was taken by Bonny’s
son Danny Betteridge with 8lb 3oz of chub from peg 100.
The lads from the Greyhound A.C. fished Hudson’s Bay on the Newark
Dyke on Sunday, where Charlie O’Sullivan fished the ground bait
feeder with a maggot and worm hook bait on peg 58 to land a winning
net of skimmers and bream that took the scales to 14lb 5oz.
In second place, Mick Burroughs fished maggot on peg 67 to weigh 3lb
10oz, with Mark O’Sullivan in third with 2lb 9oz on peg 73 fishing
the stick float.
The Station A.C. visited the Woodlands Fishery at Thirsk last Saturday
when Greg Sealey was the top rod with a net of tench and silvers weighing
31lb 7oz employing pole fished worm.
Terry Evans claimed the runners-up position with 29lb 5oz with Rob Sealey
in third with 26lb 12oz, both using the same method as the winner.
Saturday’s match at Lodge Farm, Top Pond, will start early at
7.30am. Bill is opening the café at 6.45am.
The third match of a busy weekend took place on the John Shaw’s
length of the Chesterfield canal, where Brian Heighington took the honours
in Worksop Angling Supplies Batchelor’s match with 13lb 13oz of
skimmers on peg 105 using pole fished maggot.
John Eaves weighed 10lb 10oz to bag second place on peg 118 using the
wag and Shaun Batty made up the frame with a level 10lb from peg 90.
LAKESIDE ROUND-UP
THE best match weight of the week fell to Garry White in a Bircotes
A.C. four-hour evening match last Sunday, where he fished pole and paste
on peg 30 to put a mixed bag of carp and silvers on the scales for 83lb
1oz.
Steve Spear claimed the runners-up spot with 68lb 14oz off peg 21, and
Phil Morgan bagged a level 64lb on peg 22 for third place in a high
weighing match.
On Saturday, the Welbeck Miners’ Welfare A.C. members match was
won by Bryan Buck on peg 4 with 23lb 1oz of silvers using pole fished
luncheon meat, with Bob Grey claiming second with 21lb 8oz off peg 7.
On the other side of the lake, The Vale A.C. event was won by John McConologue
on peg 12 with 37lb 5oz of silvers using pole fished meat.
Howard Gambles finished in second place, pushing him all the way with
36lb 6oz off next peg 11.
On Sunday it was the turn of Carlton W.M.C. where Bryan Marsh pole fished
caster on peg 5 to put a winning bag of 29lb 9oz of silver fish on the
scales.
Russ Brown was a very close second with 28lb 6oz off peg 11, and Malcom
Wells made up the frame with 21lb 7oz off peg 8.
On the strip lakes, action is still hectic with John Dawson landing
30 carp to 15lb 8oz on the first peg on the second strip using floating
dog biscuit or pole fished paste in his catch of over 200lb.
Scott Holland fished peg 1 on the carp lake to land four carp with the
best a common of 20lb 9oz and also a personal best ghostie of 2olb 1oz.
Over on the trout lake, Worksop’s James Dowlan bagged 12 fish
to 3lb 8oz using fritz and floating line and fellow Worksop fluff chucker
Peter Brumpton had rainbows to 9lb 8oz in his catch on green fritz.
CLUB RESULTS
IN last Thursday’s evenings three-hour Gateford Angling supplies
match, Gavin Liversage made it a hat trick of victories with 36lb from
peg 60 fishing pole and pellet shallow.
In the runners-up position was Ivor Jones from peg 74 with 33lb 10oz
and filling the frame was Roy Butterfield with 31lb 2oz from peg 34.
Bill tells us that pole fished pellet is the top method on the new ponds,
with the carp being caught shallow and the skimmers on the deck.
On the top pond, pole and pellet is also scoring well but with the tench
also falling to the bait as well as the skimmers.
He also informs us that the best advice that he can give to any pleasure
anglers on the carp ponds is to choose a peg with the wind in your face.
RIVERSIDE ROUND-UP
THE big news from the Scrooby Tops venue this week is that John Hunt
has finally become the sole proprietor of the complex.
He can announce that he has recently restocked all the lakes and will
let anglers park their cars at the back of their pegs when the conditions
are favourable.
The best weight of the week came off Sandmartins where Kieth Noble used
pole and pellet to land 63lb 15oz from peg 20.
In second place with 54lb 4oz was Paul Brazier who used pole fished
pellet and sweetcorn.
In Thursday evening’s three-hour sprint Les Richmond netted 37lb
11oz using short pole meat and sweetcorn from peg 32.
In the runners-up position was John Moore from peg 36 weighing 34lb
15oz using the pole down the margins.
There will be open matches starting from Saturday the 8th July which
are priced at £10 all in, plus £1 for the golden peg. The
draw will take place at the cabin at 9a.m. and the fishing will be from
10a.m to 4p.m.
DIAWA HALLCROFT ROUND-UP
THE best match weight of the week on Moat pool went to pete Bagshaw,
who took 90lb 6oz off peg 50 using pole fished meat at both full depth
and shallow, his net was mainly made up of carp and skimmers.
Reed Pool continues to fish well with match weights in excess of 60lb,
which are falling to pole fished pellet up in the water for carp and
skimmers.
Over on Bridge pool weights of 80lb are being taken with pole fished
meat up in the water.
