The New season
Even though the traditional close season no longer means
the end to fishing, due to the expansion of the commercial fishery scene,
there are still some of us who have waited with anticipation to today’s
start of the proper season.
There will be many of you, who like us, have booked a day off work to
enjoy the prospect of fishing waters that have not seen an angler for
three months and to all of you we wish tight lines and please let us
know how you get on.
Stuart Goulding of Go - Baits will be holding a three-day festival at
Langold Lake on the 22nd, 23rd and 24th June.
There is a maximum of 54 pegs and the entry fee is £110 per angler
with a none refundable deposit of £50 to be paid two weeks before
the start.
There will also be three 18 peg sections and each angler will fish a
different section match. The series winner will be decided on a standard
points system.
And it is anticipated that if there is a full attendance there will
be a massive £1,000 to the winner with a sliding scale of prize
money down to £50 for ninth place. For entry or further details
contact Stuart at Go Baits on 01909 540105.
CLUB RESULTS
St Joseph’s AC fished their second match of the season at Candy
Corner Fisheries near Finningley in bright sunny conditions which saw
the carp basking rather than responding to feed.
With the members opting for an early start to the match to accommodate
getting home in time for the start of the football, some were left still
plumbing up when the whistle went.
But this did not deter Stuart Lilley who pole fished caster to put a
winning weight of crucians and silvers to 20lb 5oz for first place from
peg 6.
Dave Robinson ran out a close second with 18lb 10oz from peg 8 and making
up the frame from peg 20 was Andy Lakey with 14lb 9oz.

or caster hookbait from peg 16 to edge out Ian Mellish on peg 7 who

WDAA canal bailiff Alex Roebuck expects great things from the Clayworth
area of the Chesterfield Canal where all the pegs have been cut in readiness
for the new season.
Some truly large chub have been seen in the first few pegs and the pegs
between Drakeholes and Wiseton are expected to throw up some good sport
after dredging work by British Waterways.
On the coastal scene, the small boats out of Bridlington are taking
good catches of cod to 10 stone per rod and the skate and bass are expected
to start making an appearance over the next few weeks off the Holderness
