"Anglers bid to retain
NJAA Knockout title"
8th June 2006
We would like to start by wishing all the lads fishing tomorrow’s
NJAA knockout final at the Hampton Springs fisheries in Cheshire the
best of luck in defending the title that they won last year.
We can testify after taking the lads out on a practice session on bank
holiday Monday that it is a cracking venue, which the youngsters got
to grips with almost immediately. Jason Goulding, Josh Wilde and Mark
Playforth all landed over 30lb and the rest of the squad were not far
behind.
The annual WDAA OAP match took place at the Hallcroft Fisheries, where
70 veteran anglers participated in very warm and sunny conditions and
the carp began to spawn.
This did not deter North Anston WMC’S Gordon Holmes from putting
a winning net together of 26lb 4oz, edging out fellow club member Arnie
Brookes into the runners-up position with a bag of 17lb 2oz and B. Robinson
of the Liberal AC into third place weighing 15lb 7oz.
Everyone had a very enjoyable day thanks to the hospitality of Terry
and everyone at Hallcroft, Steve and Janet of the Ultimate Café
for the fine refreshements and meals provided and the sterling efforts
of Derek Brown, Mick Pogson, Terry Evans and James Kirkham.
CLUB RESULTS
St Joseph’s AC fished their first match of the season on the Little
John lakes at Ollerton last Saturday in very pleasant conditions.

from peg 8 and Ray Ancliff put 18lb 2oz in his net for third off peg

new local fishery, which all the members can recommend.

members fished Signal Pond.

on 25th June, drawing at 8.30am. Members who wish to participate, register
with the secretary as soon as possible.
Angling Supplies Batchelors members made the journey to Stubbs Hall
lakes last Sunday, where Mick Kemshall fished the feeder with a meat
hook bait to take a winning net of carp and skimmers weighing 34lb 6oz
off peg 34.
Andy Jardine pole fished caster on peg 4 landing 15lb 10 ½ oz
for second, squeezing out Sean Batty into third with 15lb 10oz off peg
6 employing feeder fished corn.
Wales and Kiveton Park Colliery AC held a club match on their own waters
on the Chesterfield Canal on Saturday 4th June when Kev Smith led the
way with a fine mixed net of 18lb 1z off peg 30, edging out John Easy
into second off next peg 29 with 7lb 10oz.
John Booker was third, weighing 7lb off peg 5. All the framers caught
bream, carp, tench and perch on chopped worm and caster.
Members of the North Anston WMC/AC made the short journey to Aston Split
Ponds on Saturday 27th May where despite cool overcast conditions, Tarl

second and third spot netting 16lb 11oz and 12lb 6oz respectively from
pegs 28 and 24.
DIAWA HALLCROFT ROUND-UP
THE three-day spring festival over the bank holiday saw 60 anglers fishing
the Moat pool.
Shallow pole fished meat accounted for winning weights on the Saturday
and Sunday matches with 101lb 14oz enough for Rick Hunt in the first
match and Lee Hewison netting 149lb 10oz on the Sunday.
Worksop AA’s Gordon Gibson employed hair rigged meat on the bomb
to win Monday’s event with 87lb 14oz.
Lee Hewison won the festival with a total of 244lb over the three days
with Les Sylvester landing 183lb 10oz for the runners-up position and
Gordon Gibson in third with 180lb 4oz.
Gordon Gibson made it a successful week, winning Friday afternoon’s
match on Moat Pool’s peg 5 using bomb fished cat meat again and
later netting carp to 8lb in the margins to sweetcorn over a bed of
pellet weighing 83lb 3oz.
RIVERSIDE ROUND-UP
The big news at Scrooby Tops is that the venue record was obliterated
by Jamie Masson, who put a very creditable 135lb 11oz on the scales
pole fishing meat shallow on peg 33 in the bank holiday open match on
the main lake.
On Tuesday, the open match on Sandmartins was won by Les Richmond with
34lb 3oz off peg 6 using meat and pellet.
On Wednesday, regular visitors the Comrades WMC of Bircotes fished the
strip pond, where John Siddons led the way home with 23lb 11oz off peg
2 fishing corn and meat with the pole or the bomb, pushing Les Richmond
into second place on peg 4 with 14lb 12oz fishing the pellet.
Thursday evening’s three-hour sprint was a family affair with
Paul Goulding just edging out his son Jason with 26lb 14oz off peg 35
to 26lb 5½oz off peg 26 respectively, both fishing meat pellet
and corn.
LODGE FARM ROUND-UP
Gateford Angling Supplies sponsored a three-hour evening match last
Thursday on Lily Pond, where Stuart Brumpton took the honours with 52lb
6oz off peg 66 employing pole fished pellet.
Roy Butterfield had to settle for second place with 44lb 12oz off peg
53 with Ian Mellish claiming third with 43lb 10oz off peg 65.
Bill’s general form guide for Field and Signal ponds is that the
fish are up in the water and are responding to loose fed pellet, due
to warmer weather with the nets mainly consisting of carp where they
are spread along all of the lakes.
On the top pond he advises anglers to take chopped worm and caster with
them where the tench are showing in the feature pegs and in the margins
in the 30s and original wild carp to 6lb have been seen in pegs 24 and
25.
SHERWOOD ROUND-UP
Any one of a number of methods is working on Holmedale Lake at the moment
with long pole pellet , surface fished biscuit, ground bait feeder cast
to the islands or other features, and pellet and paste are all accounting
for good catches of carp.
On Sherwood Lake long pole and pellet are taking good catches of skimmers
and roach with the margins producing carp, falling to a sweet corn hook
bait.
Thomas Brunt of Worksop DAA junior squad informs us of a cracking day’s
sport he had on the Cavendish Lake, using the floating dog biscuit with
some lovely carp.
LAKESIDE ROUND-UP
Best match weight of the week was in Bridon AC of Retford’s Thursday
evening match where Steve Fur put 63lb 7oz of silver fish on the scales
from peg 12 using pole fished caster.
In a close second was Rick Hunt with 61lb 11oz from peg 4 and filling
up the frame from peg 14 was Steve Robbins with 58lb 2oz .

Brown put 36lb 3oz of chub and silvers in the net from peg 10. Claiming
the runners-up position was Martin Parsons from peg 13 with 28lb 7oz.
Bomb fished corn and meat is accounting for carp and tench nets over
120lb on both strip lakes, and over on the carp lake Martin Cochane
banked five fish – the best a mirror of 23lb 12oz off peg 3 using
boilie.
On the trout lake fluff chucker Martin Glover had 13 fish, the best
a fine rainbow of 13lb 10oz taken on green fritz and intermediate line.
Simon Cooper had 17 fish to 5lb all taken on black buzzers and floating
line.
THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE
Alex Roebuck, the balliff on WDAA stretch of the Chesterfield Canal
at Retford, informs us that the High School and Asda lengths are fishing
well for pleasure anglers with chub, bream and the occasional tench
falling to double white maggot .
Over at Woodsetts Quarry pond, the carp are beginning to get ready for
spawning but the tench and some large bream are falling to sweet corn
or boilie hookbaits.
Two Worksop anglers, Mark Preston, 15 and Nathan Moar, 13 shared seven
tench to 8½lb taken on maple sweet corn and a massive 10lb½lb
bream on monster crab boilie – well done, lads.
Grafton AA season tickets are now available to pick up from Ken Wards
Sports as soon as possible.
