WDAA miss out on national final berth

Worksop and District Anglers’ Association just missed out on qualification for the national final of the Angling Times Winter League at Heronbrooke last Saturday.
The side, captained by Mark Pressley and Gordon Smith, finished with a respectable 68 points and all should be congratulated on getting so far in the event after such a traumatic season.
But well done to Dave Hooper who claimed second position in the match with 51lb 13oz.

Lodge farm round-up
As some of you may already be aware, there has been a winter league running at Lodge Farm Fisheries at Scrooby sponsored by Worksop tackle dealer Geoff Mawby of Gateford Angling.
Ivor Jones won the last match in the series on Sunday fished on Lily Pond with 19lb 12oz from peg 74 using pole fished maggot and corn.
Steve Hill claimed the runners-up position with 19lb 5oz off peg 67 with Lee Wilkes making up the frame with 18lb 5oz off peg 72.
But overall winner was Stuart Brumpton with 22 points out of a possible 25 with sponsor Geoff Mawby, Lee Wilkes and Tommy Kirk in joint second position with 20 points.
Well done to all who competed in some awful weather conditions and congratulations to Stuart for winning what has always been a tight series.

Hodthorpe WMC visited Long Island last Sunday where Richard Hardy claimed the honours with 40lb 2oz employing the wag and mag on peg 100.
Venue regular Mick Peddle weighed in 26lb 13oz from peg 96 for second place with Steve Godley in third position with 16lb 4oz off next peg 97.

On Sunday, Hatfield Arms of Laughton were the visitors on Field Pond where winner Tony Britton used the groundbait with a maggot hookbait from peg 35 to weigh 24lb 2oz.
In second place was Garry Simpson with 12lb 8oz off peg 3 with Gavin Hall making up the frame with 9lb 5oz off peg 36.
Bill informs us that the top two pegs over the weekend on the Top Pond were 21 and 22 with the groundbait feeder the chosen method and the pinkie hookbait being the preference. But if the weather gets a little bit milder you will catch on all pegs shallow.

Sherwood round-up
The cold weather is still having an effect on the shallow Sherwood Lake, but when it comes to fishing for silver fish, it is hard to beat Lee Payling on his current form.
He fished his usual pole and caster just off the bottom, feeding little and often for a 10lb 11oz mixed net of roach, perch and gudgeon from peg 36.
In second place Matt Sanderson fished the pole and caster but struggled for bites until a change to the waggler cast to the middle of the lake brought instant success.
But he ended just short with a 9lb 5oz mixed net of roach, perch and small skimmers from peg 51 while Mick Clifton was third with 8lb 10oz at peg 41.
In the Wednesday Fun League Open on Holmedale Lake, Pete Ellis repeated his success of two weeks ago to not only win on the day, but also pull out his own peg in the £100 golden draw.
At peg 3, he fished pole at 11m with pellet and maggot on the hook for six carp to 7lb, a skimmer and a couple of roach all caught in the first three hours.
That was before the east wind got up and the temperature dropped to leave him with a finish of 19lb 1oz.
In second place, Jason Thomas fished the bore hole at peg 31 with pole corn and maggot ending with five small carp and one roach, but lost 15 others in a 10lb 7oz net.
Sid Whitehouse was third at peg 45 with a catch of 9lb 7oz. Next week’s draw is at 10am at the cabin.

Lakeside round-up
On Tuesday Mark Noble was the top rod in the Plough AC’s match with 19lb 14oz of silver fish off peg 29 using pole fished caster and pellet.
On Thursday it was the turn of the Keith Jackson Winter League on the second strip pond where the aforementioned Keith Jackson took the honours with 26lb 10oz of goldfish and silvers from peg 6 employing pole fished caster and sweetcorn.
On Sunday it was round three of the R7R Spring League where venue expert John Forster took the dial around to 31lb 9oz with a winning weight of silver fish using pole fished caster off peg 29.
Richard Turner landed 10lb 1oz off peg 12 for the runners-up position and Gary Kirby weighed 18lb 9oz off peg 15 for third.
Pleasure angler Mark Needham bagged a 60lb plus net of carp and silvers from peg 5 on the second strip using pole fished caster, chopped worm and sweetcorn.
On the Carp Lake John Vardy and Paul Kingdom landed six fish between them the best a common of 21lb 14oz using boilies on pegs 5 and 6.
Over on the Trout Lake, Simon Halford netted 13 fish which included a 8½lb rainbow on egg fly and intermediate line with Worksop fluff chucker Phil Harris banking 17 fish to 5lb on gold headed Fritz.
riverside round-up

RIVERSIDE’S March Open was won by Ian Temple with 28lb 3oz of skimmers and stockies off peg 10, fishing pole and pellet.
Keith Noble finished in second place with 22lb off peg 31 and Les Richmond made up the frame with 13lb 6oz off peg 35, both using the same method as the winner.
John informs us that the venue is fishing well for stock carp and silver fish to pole fished pellet or maggot.
