IT falls to us from time to time to report on characters from the angling community
who have passed away, and it is with deep regret that we report the untimely demise
of Trevor Ogden who sadly died last Wednesday morning.
Trevor was known to all local anglers through his working life at Worksop Angling
Supplies where he has been part of the fixtures and fittings for the last 15 years.
Current proprietor Greg Forrester who has been Trevor’s colleague for the
last four years said: “Trevor has opened the shop up for anglers every day
at 6am, and sometimes even earlier for the guys who wanted to be first to their
pegs.”
“His stirling efforts over the years have helped with the success of the
shop due to his reliability and hard-working back ground. He also offers good
advice when required.”
“Trevor has made many friends who came through the shop but ironically was
not an angler himself and could never understand what all the fuss was about.”
Most of us will remember Trevor stood at the door with his trademark cup of tea
in one hand and a cigarette in the other and we know we can speak for you all
when passing on our condolences to his family.
Trevor’s funeral is held on Wednesday 19th March at Priory Church at 10.30am.
Internment follows at Hannah Park Cemetery.

LAKESIDE ROUND-UP
WITH the onset of spring some of the match lake’s ample stock of carp are
showing a liking for meat presented on the bomb in pleasure nets as well as match
weights in excess of 32lb.
The maggot feeder is still accounting for mixed bags of silver fish to 26lb 14oz
for Worksop’s Stan Lowther.
On the second strip pond DJ Angling held their latest silver fish match on Sunday
when Craig Sutton led the field with a weight of 31lb 8oz consisting of ide goldfish
and skimmers employing pole fished pellet.
Pleasure rod Steve Wilkins placed his seat box on peg four on the first strip
where he proceeded to put together a fine mixed net of carp, tench and roach in
an estimated bag in excess of 80lb using the maggot feeder.
On the carp lake, Matt Withar landed three carp of peg five which included a common
of 18lb 6oz with young cookie slipping his landing net under a mirror of 16lb
3oz.
Over on the trout lake, Bob Walker cast his cats whisker on a intermediate line
to tempt 14 fish to an impressive 13lb.

Over the next few Saturdays, Bill will be running open matches on one of the five
pools on the complex (whichever is available on the day) with the draw taking
place at 9am at the café with fishing commencing at 10am and concluding
at 3pm. Cost is £12 all in with this Saturday’s match being fished
on the signal pond. For more information ring Bill on 07815 030694.
DAIWA HALLCROFT ROUND-UP
CROFT pool is the place to park your tackle at the Retford fishery with match
weights over 80lb being recorded using corn and pellet presented on the long pole.
On bridge pool, mixed nets of bream and carp are possible by fishing the long
pole down the edge with again a corn or pellet hook bait.
Over on moat pool, luncheon meat fished on the long pole is responsible for nets
of carp to 6lb in bags of 56lb in matches.
TOFT NEWTON ROUND UP
FIFTY-NINE anglers caught 128 fish at a rod average of 2.1.
In far-from-ideal weather conditions the majority of fish are downwind and therefore
pretty much out of reach. A few fish have been showing around valve tower and
in the north west corner and are very close in, so casting along the bank with
a floater or intermediate and goldhead lures is a good bet.
There is a bank match on 7th June sponsored by Fire Containment LTD, which carries
a guaranteed first prize of £1,000.
The match will be advertised in the national angling press and is limited to 60
places. For further details visit www.toftnewton.com
