CADET and junior members of the Worksop and District Angling Association squads
are looking to recruit a few more budding anglers to join them.
One of the most successful junior squads on local and national waters, are equally
adept at raising awareness about the part they play in the local angling scene.
Tomorrow, the juniors will be doing their sponsored bag pack at the Asda Superstore
at Retford.
This will be the third year that the youngsters have been invited by the supermarket
to raise much-needed funds as they are totally self-sufficient in all of their
finances.
All proceeds go towards introducing new recruits to angling, teaching them basic
water craft and their responsibilities to the environment when they are fishing,
as well as running the most successful teams at a national level over the last
few years.
So if you are shopping in Retford please pop along and offer them your support.
Following on from this one of the new recruits, nine-year-old Sapphir Knighton
raised £103.38 by running a tombola, holding a colouring competition and
a “guess the number of chocolates” at the recent Christmas lights
turn on at Harworth.
Cadet coach Doreen Butt judged the winner of the colouring competition and would
like to thank Sapphir and her mum Trish for their stirling efforts and Michelle
of the Harworth Café.
Doreen is still looking for new recruits aged nine to 15 for the coming year.
All coaches are CRB checked first aid qualified and NFA registered coaches so

CLUB RESULTS
SUNDAY 25th November saw the first round of the Hatfield Arms/Peg 31 winter league
which takes place on the Chesterfield Canal.
This first match was fished on the boats at Clayworth in pleasant conditions:
1st Chris Crosby 10lb 10oz peg 18 blood worm and joker; 2nd Richard Turner 3lb
11oz peg 23 blood worm and joker; 3rd Jeff Clarke 3lb 3oz peg 21 bread punch.
LAKESIDE ROUND-UP
WITH the definite onset of winter the carp have taken a back seat at the Ranskill
venues and ample silver fish stocks have come to the fore.
Ide, skimmer, bream and roach took the dial around to 28lb 4oz to give Paul Gorman
a win in Wednesday’s open match with Paul employing pole fished maggot and
caster on peg 28.
The maggot or pinkie feeder is also responsible for good silverfish nets in matches
with weights going to 22lb 8oz with Worksop’s Gordon Smith using this method
on peg 38 to lead the way in Saturday’s team of four event.
On the strip ponds, pleasure anglers have been getting amongst the carp in mixed
nets in excess of 50lb and with this in mind Worksop rod Mark Davies placed his
seat box on peg four on the second strip to plunder goldfish, skimmers and carp
in his pleasure bag using the maggot feeder or chopped worm.
The carp pond is seeing fewer anglers braving the elements but Peter Robinson
took his opportunity to bank two lumps, the best a common of 22lb from peg three.
Over on the trout lake, the resident rainbows do not seem to be put off by the
conditions and neither do the anglers with Terry Middleton tempting 21 fish to
an impressive 12lb 8oz on black buzzer on a floating line and Chris Turner casting
his blood worm also on a floating line to bag 24 fish to 8lb.
LODGE FARM ROUND-UP
MICK’S Marauders made their weekly pilgrimage to the Scrooby Top complex
last Tuesday when they took on the long island: 1st Alan Goldspink 48lb 9oz peg
91 bomb fished meat; 2nd Steve Hill 28lb 9oz peg 92 bomb fished meat; 3rd Ian
Mellish 22lb 14oz peg 94 pole fished pellet and meat.
On Saturday, the latest round of the venue’s winter league took place on
long island where the defending champion made his mark with a clear win: 1st Adam
Wake 80lb 2oz peg 99 maggot feeder; 2nd Ray Patching 46lb 9oz peg 92 wag and mag;
3rd Dave Whittington 30lb 5oz peg 85 wag and mag.
On Sunday, the fourth round of the Gateford Angling Supplies/Hodthorrpe WMC was
fished on the signal pond in a constant downpour: 1st Gavin Leversidge 9lb 10oz
peg 10 a 5lb carp on pole and pinkie; 2nd Alan Hadfield 7lb peg five pole and
pellet; 3rd Barry Godley peg 17 5lb 10oz wag and mag.
Bill tells us that the maggot feeder is his top tip for the two new pools with
pole fished caster on the first shelf using a light rig with a small hook and
a feed pattern of very little and often the best approach on the top pond for
the silvers.
RIVERSIDE ROUND-UP
PROPRIETOR John Hunt informs us that his restocking policy is still in progress
with over 1,500 stockies being introduced to the pleasure only strip pond.
Pole fished pellet is still dominating the open matches on the main lake and the
sandmartins in nets of over 22lb.
SHERWOOD FOREST FARM PARK
THE odd carp is being netted on cavendish lake on bomb fished meat cast over to
the far bank, but the mainstay of the action is from the roach and skimmers which
are being taken on pole fished pellet or caster.
On Holmedale, despite the inclement weather, the resident carp are still on the
move and are falling to a varity of methods in match weights over 67lb including
pole and corn off peg 49 and wagglered pellet on peg three.
Maunside is the place to be if small carp to 3lb pull your string with chopped
worm and caster fished on the far bank accounting for competition nets of 63lb
and long poled maggot responsible for bags of over 60lb.
LITTLE JOHN FISHERIES
A FIRST inclusion this week of a fishery that is proving popular with local anglers,
the Little John Lakes over at Ollerton which consist of two match-size pools,
Maid Marian and Little John. These are proving ideal for club matches of up to
25 anglers in the coming season.
Two midweek opens held last week, the first a 15-pegger held on Maid Marian: 1st
Shane Florence 52lb 14oz peg 24 long pole and pellet; 2nd Mark Perkins 52lb 9oz
peg 14 waggler fished pellet and maggot.
Thursday’s open on the Little John saw the same two anglers claim the honours
again: 1st Shane Florence 69lb peg 10 again long pole and pellet; 2nd Mark Perkins
37lb 10oz peg 16 waggler fishing pellet and maggot.
TOFT NEWTON ROUND-UP
MILDER weather meant for more pleasant conditions and the anglers fished well
with floating lines and diawl bachs and buzzers proving successful. Fish are within
the top five feet of water with anglers opting for intermediate lines and white
or orange lures.
Richard O’Brien from Louth took a lovely well mended rainbow of 4Ib 15oz.
The fur and feather match is on Sunday: £20 for a 10-fish limit bag, no
pegging, starts 9am, weigh-in by 3.30pm.
