South Yorkshire Police Angling Club have recently acquired a stretch of the Chesterfield Canal which was previously leased by the Retford and District AA.
After an initial asessemnt of the stocking levels they have formulated a development plan investing in fish stocks as appropriate.
The club is trying to encourage as many anglers as possible to continue to fish the water and enjoy spending time in such a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere. With this in mind a new sub-section of membership has been created within the angling club called ‘The Chesterfield Canal – Ranby Estate only’. Subscription £15 per annum but they are offering a half-year membership valid until the 1st of April for £10.
You can request an application form in one of four ways: 1) visit www.sypac.co.uk and email info@sypac.co.uk; 2) ring 07908 739237; 3) write to The Club Administrator, SYP Angling Club, PO Box 4176, Sheffield, S20 9BN; 4) call in at Angling Supplies, 49 Retford Road, Worksop, S80 2PU.
We would like to wish local angling institution Abbo Lowe a speedy recovery after his recent illness. Everyone at the Stanley Street Sports and Social Club would also like to pass on their good wishes.
There were plenty of prizes to go around at the recent awards evening at the club, but a special mention must go to aggregate winner Mick Pogson and junior members Ryan Boulton, Ben Jackson and Michael Fox who occupied positions one to three respectively in the overall junior aggregate.

LAKESIDE ROUND-UP
BIG news at the Lakeside Fishery at Ranskill is that Lynda and Steve have added a further 2,000 ide all around the 10-inch stamp to add to the venue’s ample fish stocks in the main lake.

On the strip ponds, pleasure anglers have been enjoying some unseasonable action with Worksop rod John Thomlinson banking over 50lb of carp (to 8lb), goldfish and skimmers on the maggot feeder with a worm hookbait.
On the carp lake, Jason Mills made the trip over the Pennines from Oldham to land two commons of 22lb 14oz and 22lb 2oz in his five-fish haul off peg five using boilies.
Over on the trout lake, Darren Patterson slipped his landing net under a personal best rainbow of 10lb 10oz to accompany his other nine fish tempted on green and white cats whisker on an intermediate line with Lee Jackson casting his black buzzer on a floating line to bank 13 fish to 6lb.

RIVERSIDE ROUND-UP
John Hunt, the proprietor at the Scrooby Fishery, has added another 1,000 carp in the 1lb bracket to the main lake to supplement the prolific numbers already resident.
Despite the cold weather, pole-fished pellet is still proving to be the main bait and tactic on the main lake as well as sandmartins.

Sherwood Forest Farm
THE maunside has been on top form, fishing pole with worm, pellet and maggot have been best, fishing at the bottom of the far shelf with the worm and pellet and at the top of it with maggot. Rob Ward won a recent match (Saturday) with over 88lb of carp to 3lb. He had over 100 carp on single and double maggot fished at peg three, chopped worm for ide and chub with the pellet for bigger carp. The fish are now in two big shoals in pegs two to seven and 16-19.
On the Holmedale, peg 31 is guaranteed to catch carp all winter fishing the pole at 13m and 14.5m with corn pellet and maggot best. All the road-side pegs in the slightly deeper water are worth a try with the pole at eight metres or wag or bomb cast to a feature.
Elsewhere, pegs 26, 27, 28, 40 and 41 on the sherwood lake are good for bream and carp on pellet and maggot. The first three pegs on the langdale are good for chub and ide on pole, caster and worm.
On the cavendish, pegs one to 12 have been best on pole-fished caster for roach and pole fished long with soft pellet for bream and skimmers.
