BEST wishes to local fishery owner and good friend Lynda Hawke at Lakeside at
Ranskill who recently broke her arm.
Lynda has always supported our various charity matches, fundraisers and junior
events and we are sure that you will join us in wishing her a speedy recovery.
There has already been a lot of interest in the Guardian annual beach match on
8th December with local veteran Ray Mallendar donating a trophy for the best junior
catch and Pickwicks Bar and restaurant donating a prize of a meal for two (to
be taken after the festive period) for the senior winner.
We are now taking registrations but competitors will still have to book in on
the day at a venue yet to be decided. If you are interested ring Roger or email
us to book.
Unfortunatly we have to report another spate of thefts, this time including sea
fishing tackle with boat rods, reels and beach casters. If you are offered any
gear going cheap remember that it may have been stolen.
A useful site is www.immobilise.com, which is a free site where you can register
your tackle, with serial numbers and it is well worth taking an hour of your time
to complete.
CLUB RESULTS
THE members of the Stanley Street Sports and Social Club visited the lock keeper
length of the Chesterfield canal on Sunday 30th September with the canal in an
unforgiving mood: 1st Dave Bolton 4lb 7oz; 2nd Mick Pogson 4lb 2oz; 3rd Mick Simpson

LAKESIDE ROUND-UP
THE best match weight of the week to fall at the Ranskill venue was Paul Gorman’s
mixed bag taken on pole fished pellet off peg 41 which took the scales around
to a creditable 77lb 15oz in a club match last Sunday.
Maggot is accounting for good match nets of Silverfish up to 50lb whether it be
pole, waggler or feeder fished.
On the strip lakes pleasure anglers are still enjoying sessions more in keeping
with the summer with Worksop’s Garry Cooper slipping his landing net under
carp, roach and tench, employing pole fished luncheon meat or caster on the first
strip, Garry had over 100lb which was topped by a mirror carp of 14lb 10oz.
On the carp lake Colin Headley made the long journey over the Pennines from Manchester
worthwhile, landing seven lumps to 24lb 4oz from peg three with Retford’s
Mark Newburry banking two fish to 22lb 4oz off peg four.
Over on the trout lake, Maltby rod Robert Thompson tempted 11 fish to an impressive
8lb on daddy long legs on a floating line, whilst Roy Parker of Worksop cast his
various buzzers or segmented bloodworm on a floating line to land thirteen fish
to 6lb.
DIAWA HALLCROFT ROUND-UP
PLEASURE fishing continues to be fairly consistent throughout the fishery, but
match weights have not seen much improvement, except for Bridge pool which is
producing the heaviest nets.
Cautious feeding still seems to be the best tactics at present, so feed little
and often.
On the moat pool nice nets of skimmer bream and carp are being taken on pole and
pellet or meat at six and 10m.
For afternoon fishing the margins are producing plenty of carp. Feeder fished
right across and hair-rigged corn or meat for larger carp, or bomb and cat-meat.
On the croft pool, carp to 6lb on pole and pellet or corn at six and 12m, also
corn or cat meat to the margins working well in the afternoons.
The bridge pool is still producing the most consistent days fishing with mixed
nets of 40lb+ with the odd big carp as a bonus on corn or catmeat down the edge.
On the reed pool, bream and other silver fish are coming to pellet or maggot at
eight and 11m.
LODGE FARM ROUND-UP
BILL tells us that pellet, corn or worm and caster is tempting bites on all four
carp pools at the Scrooby Top venue with 71lb topping the field in a recent match
on signal pond.
Last Wednesday’s Comrades AC’s on the Long Island was unusual in that
it was won with an all-chub net of 54lb 2oz by Alan Foster employing wasp grub
presented on the waggler shallow.
The fisheries winter league commences on Saturday 3rd November and runs alternate
Saturdays for 10 matches with two matches taking place on each of the venues five
pools.
There is a £12 entry fee to join the series and £12 pools on each
match with a maximum number of twenty five anglers taken on a first to register
basis, for more information or to register contact Bill on 07815 030694
RIVERSIDE ROUND-UP
FRIDAY’S open match on the main lake was fished in wet and windy conditions:
1st Doug Hall 34lb 5oz peg 10 pole fished maggot and worm; 2nd John Siddons 25lb
11oz peg 34 pole fished maggot.
Saturday’s open was again fished on the main lake but this time in slightly
more favourable conditions: 1st Bob Dukes 23lb 8oz peg 35 pole fished pellet;
2nd Pete Ware 17lb 2oz peg nine pole fished pellet.
John Hunt is continuing with his progressive stocking policy after the summer
floods and hopes to introduce further Ide and silverfish.
THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE
REPORTS of bass being caught from Bridlington harbour wall after the recent northerlys
and the first whiting of the season falling to Shireoaks rod Keith Espin.
From this week the north pier at Bridlington is open to anglers and should be
well worth a visit.
