CONGRATULATIONS to Worksop Angling Association juniors who fished the NFA East Midlands regionals last Saturday where the A team took the honours with the B team coming fourth.
On an individual basis, young Kyle Moore had a convincing win with three kilos 720 grams on what is his last match with the squad and Reece Nicholson took third with 820 grams.
A group of well-known anglers from Worksop made the annual pilgrimage to Stafford Moor in Devon where the former Worksop DAA captain Gordon Smith managed two wins during their stay.
One of the matches was a resident’s match which he won with 149lb and the second was the bizzarly named fish and chips match. Well done Gordon for keeping Bagger Brown, Pogo and Terry Evans out of the limelight.
Mick Simpson of the Grafton AA informs us that they are working in conjunction with British Waterways and the Environment Agency to investigate the reported fish deaths on the Chesterfield Canal which were believed to have been fish that entered the system during the recent floods from Kiveton waters. They are working to ascertain the water quality and investigate the possibility of fish being taken for the table.
Anston WMC Angling Club are sorry to announce the loss of long-standing member John Tankard, 67.
John was very helpful with all people, giving rods and tackle to juniors. On one occasion, he was asked by a junior if he could sell him a hook. John not only tied him a hook for free, but also did it for all the juniors on the lake.
He fished for Worksop in the late 1970s, competing in national finals.
People close to him say John never came to terms with the loss of his son Steven four months ago.
And finally a reminder of the Keith Fretwell Memorial/Holme Church fundraiser which is to take place on Saturday 22nd September on the Holme Marsh/Winthorpe sections of the River Trent. The entry fee is £13 all in with the draw taking place at 8.30am at the cattle grid. For further information or to register ring 01909 480419.

LAKESIDE ROUND-UP
THE match lake at the Ranskill venue is on fire at the moment with Dave Powell landing a winning all ide net of 89lb 12oz off peg 32 using pole fished caster in a midweek club match.
On Saturday, Mansfield Piscatorials held a match where father and son Chris and Ben Holmes shared the top two places with Chris managing to come out on top with a mixed bag of 112lb 8oz taken on pole fished worm off peg five.
On the strip ponds, Shaun Robertson landed 24 carp which included eight doubles on dog biscuit off peg four on the first strip.
On the carp lake, Derek Croft slipped his landing net under six specimens, the best a mirror of 23lb 12oz off peg three on boilies with fellow big fish specialist Paul Davis tempting seven lumps to 23lb 1oz off peg 1.
Over on the trout lake, John Dawson cast his black buzzer on a floating line to catch 20 fish to 4lb.

RIVERSIDE ROUND-UP
JUST two matches to report on from the Scrooby venue this week, the first being the over 50s veterans’ match which was held on Sandmartins: 1st Doug Hall peg seven pole fished worm; 2nd Keith Noble 41lb 4oz peg three pole fished pellet.
Saturday’s open match was also held on Sandmartins: 1st Les Richmond 37lb peg seven pole or feeder fished worm; 2nd Roy Patchin 28lb 8oz peg 20.

LODGE FARM ROUND-UP
A RECENT club match held on the lily pond at the Scrooby Top fishery saw more than 290lb taken by the top three with pole fished pellet shallow being the chosen method.
The top match weight to fall on field pond was 83lb taken on corn fished down the edge and also on local rod Ivor Jones was fishing pellet and maggot taking a fish a chuck.
Bill tells us that the top bait and method on the top pond is pole fished worm and caster which is tempting the better fish from any peg on the lake.

DAIWA HALLCROFT ROUND-UP
WEIGHTS have been steady this week with no exceptional match weights, however, pleasure anglers can still have a good day’s fishing. Croft has provided the most consistent sport with good weights of smaller carp feeding to pellet.
Moat Pool: Decent nets of skimmer bream with the odd bigger carp being taken on pole and pellet or meat at six and 10m. Try feeder fished right across and hair-rigged corn or meat for larger carp, or bomb and cat-meat.
Croft Pool: Carp to 5lb on pole and pellet or meat at six and 10m, also corn to the margins working well in the afternoons.
Bridge Pool: Still producing mixed nets of 50lb+ with the odd big carp as a bonus on corn or catmeat down the edge.
Reed Pool: Larger carp showing early and late on larger baits. Bream and other silver fish coming to pellet or maggot at eight and 11m.

TOFT NEWTON ROUND UP
SEVENTY-FOUR rods caught 279 for a rod average of 3.77. Bank fishing was best along the west bank towards and past the north west corner. Lots of fish moving on top on dull mornings this week with dries working very well at times. Dave McGeever from Mansfield took 14 fish on buzzers and dries fishing near the grass which is without doubt the best area.

THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE
ON the coastal front, the boats off Bridlington are taking cod to 8lb off the wrecks with the port packet proving to be particulary productive.
There are prolific schoals of mackerel and are also falling to anglers fishing the pier.
The next Worksop piscatorial match is arranged for Sunday 23rd September at Clearwater Lakes Fisheries, Mattersey. Draw is at 8.30am. Names to secretary on 01909 733886.
