AFTER a hectic few weeks we are finally back to some semblance of normality this week and will be catching up on the results and events that we have had to hold over.
But first, thanks to everyone who supported us at the inter-schools match, particularly the sponsors, the people who turned up on the day to offer logistical help and finally all the youngsters who turned up and made it so enjoyable.
Latest news from the Worksop and District Angling Association is that night fishing is now allowed on Woodsetts quarry pond as from last Monday at a cost of £7.50 per night for two rods which is payable on the bank to the bailiff.
You will have seen from the photos in last week’s column that there were two recent events which took place on Sandhill lakes – the first being the Redlands Schools match on 6th July in gale force conditions where 34 young anglers plus the parents all deserved a medal for sticking it out to the final whistle in this two-hour stint, many an older angler would have gone home before this match had finished.
Mr Walker, the deputy head, who has encouraged this competition for many years would like to thank John Haywood for all his work prior to the match and Worksop DAA members, Fred, Jason and Bob for their duties during and after the event and Miss Lindley of McDonalds for kindly donating meal vouchers as prizes.
Results: 1st Bradley Butterfield 1lb 14oz; 2nd Nathan Owen 1lb 12oz; 3rd Lettisha Smith 1lb 4oz.
In memory of the late George Fowler the school presented a trophy in his name which was won by Ashley Lacey for the lowest weight and everyone who knew George would be sure that he would approve of this gesture.
The second match, the Bassetlaw Festival OAP, took place on 10th July where 19 anglers took part on a day when small fish dominated the weights.
Most competitors opted for the pole with either a maggot or caster hook bait with the main species being roach and silver bream with the odd eel.
After the match everyone enjoyed an excellent buffet supplied by Mike and Kim of Snak Attak, funded by members of the executive committee. The prizes were presented by Worksop DAA president Mick Pogson who thanked all the participants for attending and all the numerous volunteers who helped a lot of the less able with their tackle.
Results: 1st Bob Fisher 7lb 8oz peg 71; 2nd Brian Grundy 7lb 7oz peg 77; 3rd Terry Evans 7lb 4oz peg 69; tied 4th Wilf Salmon 6lb 7oz peg 67; Pete Brown 6lb 7oz peg 62.
