Last Saturday we were privileged to witness the Worksop and DAA senior
citizens match held at the Daiwa Hallcroft fishery at Hallcroft, Retford.
On the day a total of 74 anglers competed in almost ideal conditions
with a nice breeze putting a ripple on the water on a warm and sunny
day.
The match itself took place on the moat outer and island pegs where
they enjoyed the benefit of generous pegging which gave the majority
of the anglers the benefit of at least one spare peg alongside them.
Again we were impressed by the good-natured camaraderie and humour with
all the competitors being able to catch up with old friends –
some who had not been seen since last year’s competition.
The event was run with military precision due to the organisational
skills of Derek Brown and Mick Pogson – with the added bonus of
a meal provided by the association after the match, as well as a couple
of drinks and the donation of free-to-enter raffle prizes.
The match was won by Ken Stevenson, representing the executive committee
on his first attempt with a bag of 39lb 2oz taken on pole fished meat
alternating between shallow and on the deck off island peg six.
Mick Hill of the British Gas AC claimed the runners-up position with
a net weighing 24lb 10oz taken on pole fished pellet and paste from
outer peg 11 with Harold Mettam-Fox of Nethergreen AC in third position
weighing 19lb 2oz off outer peg 26 using pole fished paste.
Derek would like to thank all the competitors for fishing in a fantastic
spirit and also to eveybody at Hallcroft for their hospitality for all
the facilities for the match and for cooking the evening meal.
At the other end of the age spectrum we would like to remind any juniors
who are interested in fishing the free fun day on 16th June at Riverside
Fisheries at Scrooby to contact us as soon as possible to register if
you have not already done so.
Would everybody attending please arrive by 4pm for a 4.30pm start.

LAKESIDE ROUND UP
The best match weight landed at the Ranskill venue last week was in
the Bank Holiday Monday open when Carl Sweatnam put a mixed bag of 62lb
15oz on the scales off peg 19 employing pole fished meat.
On Sunday the Norfolk Arms club match was a silver fish only event with
Roy Davies requiring 52lb 10oz to top the field from peg 41. Roy used
pole fished maggot with worm and caster also accounting for good back
up weights.
On the third peg on the first strip pond, Ranskill’s Paul Dawson
made the short journey worthwhile landing over 150lbs of carp on the
floating dog biscuit or bread. Paul had seven doubles to 16lb 4oz in
his catch.
On the trout lake, fly caster Paul Wright of Worksop put his landing
net under 11 rainbows, the best topping out at 10lb 4oz taken on segmented
bloodworm and sinking line with fellow fluff chucker Frank Clarke landing
14 fish to 5lb on black buzzers and floating line.
Over on the carp lake, specialist angler Jamie Weaver banked seven fish
off peg four which included three 20s to 26lb 6oz on scopex flavoured
boilies and John Vardy netting 18 fish to 19lb 10oz off peg three.
RIVERSIDE ROUND UP
John the proprietor of the Scrooby venue would like us to inform all
the youngsters taking part in next Saturday afternoon’s fun day
that barbless hooks are to be used.
All nets must be dipped on arrival at the complex and that the fishery
feed pellets are to fed only. Any hook pellets are permitted with John
also telling us that worm, caster or maggot fished on the short pole
will give the young anglers plenty of silver fish sport.
The best match weight to fall during the last week was in Tuesday’s
open on the main lake where Reg Turner employed pole fished meat up
in the water on peg 36 taking the dial around to 95lb 13oz.
On Wednesday, the anglers from the Comrades AC of Bircotes tackled the
main lake when venue expert Les Richmond used his favourite method of
caster fished on the top two to put a winning net of silver fish together
of 41lb.
Thursday evening’s three-hour sprint was the first ever match
won by Dave Brammer off peg 13 using pole fished meat for a net of 35lb
11oz.
The big talking point of the last week was the seven-peg knock-up between
the lads on Sandmartin lake where they managed to bag over 334lb between
them. Richmond finished in last position with just 32lb 8oz.
The Strip pond is responding to bomb fished meat cast over to the reeds
on the far bank in impressive pleasure nets.
DAIWA HALLCROFT ROUND-UP
THE change in weather interrupted the spawning fish, but those carp
which have finished spawning are feeding again in most areas.
The silverfish are still well worth fishing for with bream to over 5lbs
coming out of Moat and Bridge pools.
The top match and pleasure weights this week are still nets of carp
on paste, catmeat, pellet, corn and meat shallow. Good bream taken on
pellet and meat.
Moat Pool: Meat, pellet and paste have produced the better match weights
this week with mixed nets to over 50lbs, however, bigger carp are still
showing to paste or corn on the pole and catmeat on the bomb.
Bridge Pool: Some good bream and carp being caught in the margins on
corn and paste, pellet is working well at long pole range.
Croft Pool: Producing nets of carp to 50lb responding best to loose
feed pellet fishing either pellet or corn on the hook.
Reed Pool: Pleasure anglers taking carp to double figures on larger
baits, luncheon meat, double corn or catmeat.
Notable matchweights of the week were led by D. Newman of Worksop who
took 109lb 1oz in Friday’s match from moat outer peg 22, followed
by Steve Shepherd, Worksop, who landed 99lb 2oz moat peg outer 75 in
Sunday’s festival and Gordon Gibson also of Worksop with 86lb
13oz peg outer 111 in Monday’s festival match.
Overall winner of the event was Steve with Gordon claiming the runners-up
position.
LODGE FARM ROUND-UP
The Signal and Field ponds are fishing exceptionally well at the present
time with the fish falling to either pole fished pellet or paste at
eight to 10 metres out or in the margins.
The Long Island is beginning to pick up now that the carp have ceased
spawning with pleasure weights over 60lb being taken on pole fished
pellet and paste.
The Top Pond is fishing a little bit hard at the present time where
caster or maggot fished on the waggler or pole is accounting for the
resident roach perch an skimmers.
SHERWOOD ROUND-UP
Holmedale Lake, Gateford Angling Summer Series round two, 25 fished:
1st Glenn Greasley Oaks AC, 60lb 5oz peg 33; 2nd Mick Langton Sherwood
Forest Fishery 45lb 7oz peg 22; 3rd Geoff Mawby Gateford Angling Worksop
45lb peg 21.
The weekend’s rain and a five degree drop in water temperature
down to 11 degrees made it hard on all lakes. Out in front, Barnsley’s
Glenn Greasley fished a method feeder and pellet cast to the lily pads
in the middle of the lake, he caught steady all day ending with 14 carp
to 5lb and nearly 15lb to spare over fishery owner Mick Langton.
Drawn at peg 22 he alternated between a method feeder cast to the island
with corn and pole fished at 13m with pellet for 11 carp at 8lb finishing
7oz in front of third-placed Geoff at the next peg, fishing pole and
worm down the margin for 10 carp to 6lb.

29lb 8oz peg 39; 2nd Fred Bispham Dynamite Mayfair 23lb 11oz peg 63;
3rd Mark Jones Sherwood Forest Fishery 17lb 4oz peg 42.
