WORKSOP DAA junior Reece Nicholson of Valley School has been invited to fish the junior England trials at Furzon Lake at Milton Keynes on 10th June.
All trialists will be required to fish long pole at 11.5 metres. There will be two sessions, the first starting at 9.30am.
Reece is another product of Ryton Angling Club who have a progressive junior angling policy, and we would like to wish him well and will report his progress in a further issue.

Congratulations to Carlton angler Graham Slaughter for his world-record smashing carp from the rainbow lakes in France. We can’t add a great deal to last week’s comprehensive coverage in the Guardian and angling papers but well done mate.
Well, as expected the Bank Holiday turned out to be a total washout, but many of you like us will have been enjoying your first club match of the summer season.

We again ask all club secretaries to ensure that we receive match reports by 6pm on Monday evening for inclusion in the column, including all relevant details including weight, peg, venue and any method used to produce the catches.
Many of you who read last week’s Angling Times will have recognised Worksop angler Terry Evans photographed enjoying a session at Stafford Moor in Devon with fellow ‘pin-up boys’ Mick Pogson and Bagger Brown, yet more local anglers receiving national recognition.

We would like to wish Worksop juniors well in their quest to win the NJA knockout final at Maver Larford complex near Stourport in Worcestershire tomorrow, and best of luck to all competing in the senior citizens match at Daiwa Hallcroft.
We are hoping to be there ourselves to sample the camaraderie and offer our help if needed and we will be giving coverage in next week’s column.

LAKESIDE ROUND-UP
THE top match weight to fall at the Ranskill venue over the last week went to Stuart Evans in a club match last Thursday. He fished meat and pellet on corner peg 34 to put a mixed bag of 91lb 8oz on the scales.
On Saturday, Dinnington’s Dave Wright topped the field in the Lakeside festival with an all silver fish weight of 75lb 14oz pole fishing caster on peg 11 with Carl Sweetnam claiming the honours in Sunday’s event employing pole fished meat on peg 28 for a net of carp and silvers weighing 68lb 7oz.
On the strip ponds, pleasure angler Mark Anderson of Worksop landed more than 180lb of mainly carp and roach which included 17 double-figure carp topping out with a mirror of 17lb 10oz tempted on bomb fished meat.
On the carp lake, Garry Wilkinson netted a 25lb 8oz common in his five-fish haul off peg three with Owen Griffiths landing nine specimens to 19lb 10oz from peg five.
Over on the trout lake, Worksop’s Ken Brooder cast his cat’s whisker on a floating line to land 18 rainbow trout to 3lb with Peter Hopkins netting an 8lb 8oz rainbow on black buzzer and floating line in his 11-fish bag.

RIVERSIDE ROUND-UP
THE silver fish on the main lake are still filling keepnets in large numbers with venue expert Les Richmond landing 72lb 14oz of these off peg eight to win Tuesday’s open.
On Sandmartin, Ian Temple netted 75lb 1oz using pole fished pellet on peg 20 in Monday’s open with pole fished meat also worth a look at and the pellet waggler.
Thursday evening’s three-hour match on the main lake was a tight affair with just over 1lb separating the top two: 1st Jamie Masson 64lb 11oz peg 26 pole fished meat; 2nd Ian Temple 63lb 2oz peg four pole fished paste; 3rd Les Richmond 47lb 12oz peg 28 all silvers worm and caster.
John says strip lake is still fishing well for pleasure anglers with the best methods being a waggler or a small bomb cast to the far side.

LODGE FARM ROUND-UP
WEDNESDAY evening’s match was fished on signal pond where Adam Wake led the way on peg 24 putting 36lb 10oz of carp and skimmers in his net using pole fished pellet.
On Thursday evening, the members from Hodthorpe WMC held their event a day late and fished the field pond: 1st Stuart Grey 71lb 10oz peg four pole and paste fished in the margins; 2nd Roy Butterfield 48lb 15oz peg two pole fished corn; 3rd Barry Godley peg 29 38lb 6oz pole fished pellet.
The best match weight to fall at the Scrooby Top venue last week was 113lb 18oz from peg 95 on the long island using pole fished paste in the margins with lily pond producing a match-winning weight of 104lb 3oz from peg 67 using shallow pole fished pellet. Bill also informs us that on the top pond the quality roach and perch are being tempted to caster fished on the drop, with a little and often feed pattern. Tench are begging to make an appearance over the first shelf with worm or corn being the favoured baits.

DAIWA HALLCROFT FORM GUIDE
THE fish have started to spawn this week, but carp are still showing in most areas. The silverfish are showing well with roach to 1lb plus and bream to over 5lbs coming out of Moat and Bridge Pools.
Both match and pleasure anglers are still having good nets of carp on paste, catmeat, pellet, corn and meat shallow. Good bream can be taken on pellet, meat and corn.
Moat Pool: meat shallow and paste have produced the better match weights this week with mixed nets to over 50lbs, however, bigger carp are still showing to paste or corn on pole and catmeat on the bomb.
Bridge Pool: some good bream and carp being caught in the margins on meat and corn, pellet is working well at long pole range.
Croft Pool: producing nets of carp to 50lb responding best to loose feed pellet fishing either pellet or corn on the hook.
Reed Pool: pleasure anglers taking carp to double figures on larger baits, luncheon meat, double corn or catmeat.

THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE
OUR old friend Glynn Williams reports that courtesy of Worksop and District Anglers Association, 20 pupils from Portland School recently lined the banks of Sandhill Lake as part of their training in preparation for the forthcoming Worksop Guardian Inter Schools competition that is scheduled to take place at Hallcroft on Wednesday 18th July.
Confronted with windy conditions coupled with the occasional showers, the pupils found the fish were in a fickle mood and were noticeable by their absence.
At the final weigh-in there was a tie for first place between Thomas Davenport and Josh Hurst who both put 3lb 7oz of fish on the scales.
Thomas fished long and short pole at peg 63 to take five fish which included a tench of around 1.5lb plus some skimmers. Josh was fishing peg 68 and he used the feeder method to take nine small bream. Other leading weights were James Wibberley-List 2lb 3oz peg 79 and Thomas Hunt 1lb 7oz peg 67.
Team manager Glynn stated that he was very impressed with the commitment of the pupils despite the conditions and he was confident that there was sufficient evidence to confirm that he would be able to select two teams to represent the school in the forthcoming event at Daiwa Hallcroft as well as in the National School Championships which take place in September at the Glebe Fishery in Leicestershire.
Glynn would like to extend his thanks to Worksop and District Angling Associations for the use of their facilities for this event and also to Angling Supplies on Retford Road for providing each of the pupils with a selection of hook bait.
