IT HAS been a busy week in the angling world with the Worksop and District Angling Association’s AGM and junior and team events all being held.
The annual general meeting saw a number of issues raised that will effect local anglers, the high spot being the honoury lifetime membership bestowed on Worksop bailiff and stalwart Freddy Foster in recognition of his sterling work and commitment over the years.
The other big issue was the increase in the cost of the Worksop members book being raised for the first time in a few years to £20 for a full member and £10 for concessions while the junior book remains at £5.
This raise was voted on after a lengthy debate and still remains excellent value, offering the opportunity for free fishing on a wide variety of running and still water venues including the newly acquired permits on the Barlow complex.
Other issues raised include the number of statutory permits needed for a club to sell to retain association membership, this has stood at 10 books per club but due to declining club membership this has now been waived for a trial period of a year.
In addition, membership will now allow free fishing with two rods on Worksop still waters, Woodsetts pond and Sandhill lake whereas day ticket holders will have to still pay an additional £2.
The senior citizens annual match is to be held on Saturday 2nd June at Daiwa Hallcroft Fishery at Retford. Entry is free and includes a free meal for all competitors, but this match is limited to the first 80 anglers who are in possession of a current Worksop book so if you wish to register contact Derek Brown on 01909 486350 as soon as possible.

The Guardian Angling/Worksop DAA team of four event took place on the Asda/High School length of the Chesterfield Canal last Saturday where the competitors found the cut absolutely gin clear for the majority of the match.
The camaraderie had to be witnessed to be believed with lots of good-natured banter between the competitors (particularly when Mick Pogson lost a 3lb+ bream at the net) and some good weights were returned from the anglers on the more favoured pegs.
Team winners on the day were the Langwith Loonies, captain Dennis Burrows, George Nibblet, Patch Farrel and Nick Bowmer with a total of 10 points. Gateford Angling Supplies were second.
Individual winners were Gavin Thomlison with 24lb 8oz of mainly chub off peg one waggler fishing bronze maggot, in second place from peg two was Gateford Angling’s John Eaves who fished similar tactics to land 13lb 6oz.
A total of £128 was raised on the day towards the joint Guardian angling column, Worksop D.A.A. junior angling events to be held later in the year and we would like to thank all the competitors who took part and Worksop DAA for the free donation.
As mentioned there has been a lot of developments on the junior events but due to the number of items in this week column and space limitations we are going to hold these over to next week.

LAKESIDE ROUND-UP
THE best match weight of the week to fall at the Ranskill venue was in the Wickersley AC open on Wednesday when Mark Holmes put together an all silver fish net of 89lb 9oz using pole fished worm and caster on peg 25.
On the second strip pond, pleasure angler Mark Johnson landed more than 150lb of mainly carp to 10lb 4oz employing pole fished corn and meat, while on the carp lake, Charles Snowden netted three fish which was topped by a common of 28lb 10oz with Matt Smith banking seven fish to a best of 26lb 3oz.
Over on the trout lake, Colin Hamilton bagged a rainbow of 7lb 10oz in his seven-fish haul using various buzzers on a floating line with fellow fluff chucker Lee Dempsey of Worksop cast his segmented bloodworm on a sinking line to account for 14 fish to 6lb.

RIVERSIDE ROUND-UP
A SELECTION of methods and baits are accounting for impressive match weights at the Scrooby venue with regular visitor Les Richmond taking an all silverfish net consisting of mainly Ide totalling 63lb 12oz in Tuesday’s open on the main lake using short pole fished caster on peg 16.
Some of the larger specimin carp are showing on all three lakes at the fishery with Geoff Bennett weighing 75lb of these to top the field in last Monday’s open match on Sandmartin.
Geoff pole fished pellet and meat from peg 10 catching steadily throughout the match. The first Friday Over-50s veterans match of the year was won by Pete Allsop who pole fished meat on peg eight to weigh 67lb 2oz. John would like us to inform you that his Thursday evening matches are to start next week on 17th May with an all inclusive cost of £11. The draw takes place at 5pm and the fishing is from 6pm-9pm.

DAIWA HALLCROFT ROUND-UP
ALL lakes continue to provide good sport both for the pleasure and match anglers. Carp and bream are showing in all areas to a variety of methods from pole to rod and line.
Moat Pool has seen the top weight of the year so far with 184lb 14oz of mainly carp caught on paste from the bowl area in an afternoon open match. Pleasure anglers have recorded bags of 80lb plus. Corn and catmeat down the margins are starting to produce results, with carp to 19lbs.
The Bridge Pool continues to fish well with pellet, meat, corn and paste the favoured baits fishing mainly at 6m and 12m.
Reed Pool continues to fish well for the bigger carp, bream and the odd chub and tench on corn and cubed meat, the top match weight this week is 157lbs, using paste and corn.
Croft is still providing good sport with smaller carp around the 1lb mark and the odd fish to 5lb on pole and pellet at full depth.
Top tips this week: in windy conditions on the bigger lakes try catmeat on the bomb, and fish the margins late on with a big bait.

LODGE FARM ROUND-UP
BILL’S top tips for the lily pond is to pole fish pellet or corn. On signal pond the match weights have been going to 63lb 10oz with shallow fished worm or meat the chosen method with pole and pellet shallow, the winning combination on field pond but be prepared to follow the fish up and down the water column.
On the top pond the skimmers are beginning to respond to worm and caster in nets to 37lb with the resident tench in the 30 pegs beginning to show to the same bait. Wednesday evening matches are to begin on 16th May with a 4.45pm draw, fishing from 5.30pm-9pm. For more information contact the fishery on 07815 030694.

SHERWOOD FOREST FARM PARK
HOLMEDALE Lake, Wednesday Fun League open, 30 fished: 1st Dave Madin (Mossella Ultimate Anglers) 128lb 11oz peg three; 2nd Pete Ellis (Sherwood Forest Fishery) 84lb 2oz peg 23; 3rd Neil Wilkinson (Sherwood Forest Fishery) 83lb 2oz peg 17.
When top fishery angler Dave Madin drew in form peg 31 there was only going to be one winner, but he didn’t have it all his own way, fishing pole corn pellet and meat on the top of the sunken building. He had only had one fish after two hours, before feeding heavy with pellets, meat and ground bait and 30 minutes later it was a carp 6lb every put in finishing with 128lb 11oz.
Second, third and fourth places were separated by less than 2lbs with Pete Ellis coming out top with an all carp net weighing 84lb 2oz on pole fished corn over pellets
Holmedale Lake, Pairs Series round seven, Sunday, 26 fished: 1st Kev Parks (Mosborough Tackle) 125lb 15oz peg 19; 2nd Kev Baxter (Daiwa Trentman) 112lb 4oz peg four; 3rd Steve Clark (Mansfield) 82lb 15oz peg 43.
Once again more than 100lb was needed to win at this in-form fishery with Sheffield’s Kev Parks coming out top. He fished both the pole and feeder cast tight to the island, starting off on the feeder and meat he had nine carp till a change to his prebaited pole swims out at 14m and down the margin with pellet and meat he had a carp (6lb) most put-in till the end and weighing in 125lb 15oz.
Also on a ton and from Sheffield and called Kev, was Kev Baxter who fished the pole and meat out and down the margin catching all match he had carp (8lb) and a total of 112lb 4oz.
The lake fished well all round the top 11 recorded weights over 50lb and 40lb 8oz was only good enough for 15th place.
