WE were fortunate enough to witness some excellent fishing on a lake only a few
miles from Worksop where we saw significant catches of double figure carp, golden
orfe and decent skimmers.
The downside is that it was at Center Parcs and you have to be staying there to
be able to purchase a day ticket, but if you are lucky enough to be visiting it
is well worth packing some of your tackle and having a go. You will not be disappointed.
The Worksop juniors made the long trip to Langwith Lakes in York for a practice
session for their upcoming NJAA Knockout Cup eliminator which takes place on 12th
May against Wakefield, Barnsley and Leeds.
Six anglers represent each team with the top two going through to the final which
takes place at Maver Larford Fisheries on 2nd June.
This gives Worksop a bit of an edge if they qualify for the final as they have
previously won this event on this venue in 2005.
On the day at Langwith, the youngsters found the going hard with bites few and
far between but this did not deter them and they gamely stuck to the task steadily
putting the odd fish in to the net.
Top rod on the day was new signing Liam Clark (28lb) with young Tommy Moore claiming
the runners-up position with 25lb 14oz and Josh Wilde with 24lb 13oz taking third.

LAKESIDE ROUND-UP
POLE fished luncheon meat is the top method in the matches at the moment accounting
for John Forster’s winning net in Wickersley Angling’s open match
last Saturday.
John netted a mixed bag of 64lb 4oz from peg three with Terry Winter using the
same method in Sunday’s RR Open with the winning mixed bag coming off peg
10 at 73lb 2oz.
On the strip lake pleasure anglers are making the most of the warm spring climate
with Alan Parker landing over 150lb of carp, tench, goldfish and roach from peg
four on the second strip.
Alan tempted seven double fissure carp to 17lb 4oz on bomb fished sweetcorn or
luncheon meat.
The carp lake is also beginning to respond with John Vardy landing nine fish where
John broke his personal best twice with a common of 24lb 2oz which was then bettered
by a ghostie of 25lb 8oz off peg one using a boilie hookbait.
A fellow specimen hunter banked seven fish to 23lb 10oz off peg four also using
hair rigged boilie.
Over on the trout lake, fluff chucker Nigel Johnson slipped his landing net under
14 fish the best going to a very respectable 9lb 6oz taken on various buzzers
and floating line. John Hall cast his purple fritz on a floating line for 18 fish
(4lb).
RIVERSIDE ROUND-UP
VENUE expert Les Richmond is using his favourite method of pole and pellet on
the main lake and Sandmartins, taking a winning net of 54lb 8oz in Tuesday’s
open match on peg eight on the main lake and 45lb 8oz on peg 10 on the Sandmartins
in Monday’s open.
Bomb fished meat is also producing good back up weights over 50lb and pole fished
pellet and paste is also making an impact now the fish are showing in the margins.
The silver fish are also making an appearance with Norman Footit landing the best
ever all silver fish match weight of 49lb 9oz off peg 30 taken on caster fished
on the short pole.
There will be a bank holiday match on Monday with the draw taking place at 9.30am
with fishing taking place from 10.30am-4.30pm with the cost £12 including
a golden peg.
The over 50s veterans matches are to start again with the first one taking place
on Friday 11th May again with a 9.30am draw and £12 all in. Fishing from
10.30am-4.30pm if you wish to register or for more information contact John on
01302 711889.
LODGE FARM ROUND-UP
THE big news from the Scrooby Top venue is that the match record has been broken
on the Top Pond (silver fish) in Denaby and Cadeby AC’s match last weekend
where Mitch Mitchell put an impressive winning net together of 68lb 5oz which
consisted of 74 skimmers and one small tench off peg 45 using pellet fished on
the deck with 10 metres of pole.
The best match weight to fall on lily pond was in a Rotherham freeliner event
where 87lb was needed to top the field using wag and pellet but floating pole
and pellet is also worth a look on the carp ponds, as is wag and mag.
Roy Butterfield of Hodthorpe WMC will be running Wednesday evening matches from
16th May with the draw taking place at 4.45pm and fishing commencing from 5.30pm
until dusk, priced £11 all in. For details contact the fishery on 07815
030694.
DAIWA HALLCROFT ROUND-UP
MATCH weights have been going to 110lb at the Retford venue with Keith Stacey
fishing meat shallow at 13 metres on Island peg four in the Leegem Series match
last Sunday on the moat pool.
Also on Sunday, Worksop DAA’s Gordon Gibson also managed a win, this time
in the open match. Gordon elected to fish down the edge with cat meat to put a
winning net of carp to 8lb together weighing 80lb 13oz taken from peg 93 on the
moat outer.
On the pleasure scene, increasing temperatures and settled weather has seen the
fishery getting back to top form with all species feeding well.
Bridge Pool has seen the top weight this week from a club match which was over
120lbs of carp and bream. Moat and bridge pools are continuing to produce good
sport for both pleasure and match anglers with good nets of carp and skimmers
on pole with pellet or meat. Several bags of 70lb plus have been recorded.
Match weights are topping the ton on a variety of methods from shallow fishing
to feeder or bomb.
Reed pool continues to fish well for the bigger carp, bream and the odd chub and
tench on corn and cubed meat. Croft is providing good sport with smaller carp
(5lb) on pole and pellet at full depth.
Top tip for is now the water temperature is increasing so try paste or catmeat
at 6m.
SHERWOOD FOREST FARM PARK
HOLMEDALE Lake, Wednesday Fun League open, 24 fished: 1st Pete Hodgetts, Mansfield
Angling, 140lb 8oz peg 31; 2nd Mick Langton, Sherwood Forest Fishery, 109lb 3oz
peg 19.
The top two anglers renewed their membership into this year’s ton-up club,
Pete coming out top from in-form peg 31, but the wind made it hard for him to
fish the pole at the usual distance. He started fishing the pole at 11m with corn
on the hook and had 15 carp (3lb) and when the wind eased he fished on top of
the submerged building and started catching carp (8lb) ending the match with 140lb
8oz.
Second-placed fishery owner Mick alternated the pole and pellet and the method
feeder with corn cast to the island. He was into carp from the off and ended with
two nets full of carp (7lb) and a total of 109lb 3oz.
Sherwood Lake, Tuesday, 20 fished: 1st John Holmes, Dynamite Mayfair, 52lb 4oz
peg 59; 2nd Kev Jones, Leegem Chesterfield, 39lb 11oz peg 61.
John Holmes finally made it to the top after having numerous second-place finishes
over the last few weeks. He fished pole and pellet on two lines over a bed of
pellets to weigh in at 52lb 4oz of bream and carp to 3lb.
Kev had little to offer the scales man but with an hour to go he had six carp
(7lb) on pole and corn from his margin swim, third place went to Steve Richards
fishing pole and maggot up to the island for a mixed net of chub roach and skimmers,
the next three places couldn’t be separated.
THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE
FATHER and son Paul and Darren Johnson of Worksop report that the fishing lake
at Bondhay Golf Club is fishing extremely well at the moment.
Paul took a decent silver fish net of mainly roach on waggler fished maggot and
young Darren took a mixed net which included a carp of 15lb on floating marshmallow.
