WE start this week with a clarification of part of last week’s feature on the Worksop and District AA’s newly-acquired Barlow fishery permits.
In last week’s edition we stated that the permits could be collected from Worksop Angling Supplies on Retford Road, which isn’t strictly true as it was pointed out that it would be a trek for anyone from the Chesterfield side of Worksop to travel in, collect a permit and travel all the way back out.
So as an alternative, if you ring Greg Forester (01909 482974) with your Worksop book number and all the details of when you want to fish, the permit can be granted and obtained at the fishery.
With the summer season starting in full swing and all local clubs starting to send match results in we are going to have to change the format of the column in the near future to fit everything in.
Our intention is to cover all club results as comprehensively as possible and to do a summary of the commercial fisheries with form guides and exceptional results on open matches to try to ensure a fair balance between match fishing and the pleasure side of the sport, as well as continuing our ‘Through the Grapevine’ feature for all your news and upcoming events.
So if you are a local club or an individual pleasure angler on any of the local commercials and wish for your results/catch to feature in the column, can you please contact us directly via the website or by the results sheets which are obtainable at the Guardian office on Ryton Street. Feel free to include as many details as you can, such as peg numbers, weather conditions, tactics used and so on.
Can you also ensure that any photos are in the jpeg format as we sometimes struggle to download other systems.
We hope the new look column will cover all aspects of the sport in our area and we will welcome any constructive comments on ways we can further improve it. We would also like to give you all a final reminder that anyone wishing to fish the Worksop and District AA delegate and bookholders match which is to be fished on Sandhill Lake this Sunday, it is your last chance to register.
Tickets are £5 all in and all monies are to be paid out in prizes. Anyone interested contact either Mick Pogson on 01909 486893 or Derek Brown on 01909 486350. The draw takes place at the Snak Attak café on Gateford Road at 8.30am with fishing from 10.30am to 3.30pm.

Pleasure anglers are still having good days on the Bracebridge section. And reports are coming in that the viaduct section has been fishing well for the last two weeks.
Members of the Stanley Street Sports and Social made the trip to Kiveton Waters where they fished lake three with the majority of members finding fish hard to find due in part to the strong winds. The winner didn’t have a bite for the last three hours of the match: 1st Mick Pogson 15lb 10oz pole corn/meat; 2nd Ian Mellish 7lb 6oz pole corn/meat; 3rd Steve Royale 7lb 2oz feeder carp/tench.
The next match is on 22nd April on the Croft Pool at Hallcroft.

LAKESIDE ROUND-UP
THE best match weight of the week fell to Danny Hodgkiss in Saturday’s open match with a net of carp weighing 83lb 10oz using floating dog biscuit.
On Sunday it was round six of the R&R Spring League where the top three all weighed exclusively silver fish nets: 1st Chris Day 69lb peg 13 pole fished pellet and caster; 2nd Mick Shaw 68lb 13oz peg 17; 3rd Ian Douglas 68lb 5oz peg 29.
Monday’s Bank Holiday open saw Malc Thompson lead the way off peg 34 with a net of mainly carp weighing 71lb 5oz taken on pole fished pellet and corn.
On the strip ponds, Mark Harrison of Worksop landed over 100lb of carp, goldfish, skimmers and tench. Included in his catch were 15 carp, the best of which was a mirror of 11lb 10oz taken on the floating pole and pellet.
On the carp lake, Stuart Booth landed a common of 23lb 4oz and a mirror of 21lb 1oz in his six-fish haul off peg one with fellow specimen hunter Paul Davies netting five leviathans off peg four, the largest being a common scaling 22lb 8oz.
Over on the trout lake, Ian Thomlinson tempted a rainbow weighing 8lb 8oz in his 10-fish bag on segmented bloodworm and intermediate line with fellow fluff chucker Graham Purseglove casting his black buzzer on a floating line to land 16 fish to a weight of 3lb.

RIVERSIDE ROUND-UP
SCROOBY venue man John tells us that all three ponds are fishing very well at the moment with the match weights comprising of mainly silver fish pushing 50lb with good back-up weights required to frame.
Pole fished worm and caster accounted for an all ide net that tipped the scales around to 46lb+ with pole fished pellet scoring well on many of the 76 pegs on the complex.
John also informs us that if you are lucky enough to have a peg with a feature then cast a bomb or feeder to it as this will improve your catch rate.
John also expects the bigger carp to show in the margins now that the water temperature is rising.

LODGE FARM ROUND-UP
WEDNESDAY’S Gateford Angling Supplies Open match was fished on lily pond: 1st Steve Hill 34lb 4oz peg 51 wag and mag; 2nd Janey Hancock 25lb 4oz peg 75; 3rd Stuart Brumpton peg 69 24lb.
Saturday saw the last round of the Lodge Farm Winter League on the top pond: 1st D. Frost 22lb 12oz peg 44 waggler fished caster; 2nd Adam Wake 20lb 9oz peg 42.
The final league positions are: 1st Adam Wake 11 points; 2nd Darren Godley; 3rd D. Frost.
Bill informs us that in the lily and long island ponds a lot of fish are to be caught in the margins on various baits, while in the field and signal ponds, it is advisable to pellet up in the water with feed little and often.

SHERWOOD FOREST FARM PARK
SHERWOOD Lake, Tuesday, 21 fished: 1st John Wooff (Sherwood Forest Fishery) 54lb 4oz peg 24; 2nd Geoff Storer (Crown AC) 39lb 3oz peg 53.
No.1 fishery bailiff John Wooff made it to top spot at the end of the match, fishing pole maggot and corn in the margin. Because of the wind he was the only angler to have carp in his mixed net of skimmers, rudd, tench and roach, having six carp (3lb) in his net and a bonus ghostie that went just over 9lb pushed him in front of runner-up Geoff Storer by 15lb for a total of 54lb 4oz.
Geoff had a nice net of skimmers and bream (3lb) caught on pole and caster fished down the margin at peg 53 for 39lb 3oz.
Holmedale Lake, Pairs Series round three, Sunday, 25 fished: 1st Neil Wilkinson (Sherwood Forest Fishery) 93lb 10oz peg 49; 2nd Rob Ward (Sherwood Forest Fishery) 60lb 3oz.
Neil made the most of an un-drawn peg below him fishing pole and paste into it. He had a carp of 8lb on his first put-in and then had to wait an hour for his next bite; he then put 19 more carp in his nets to weigh a total of 93lb 10oz.
His pairs partner was second, fishing a small ground bait feeder and corn cast tight to the island. He caught carp (4lb) steady all day and finished with a total of 60lb 3oz. Top pair on the day were Neil and Rob with two points
