by angling correspondents Roger Stocks and Stuart Lilley

WE start this week by reminding you all that it is now time to buy your
new rod licence which is essential for fishing ALL waters and anyone
caught without one will be liable to a hefty fine and the possibility
of having your tackle confiscated.
There are three categories of licence – full, junior and concessionary
– available from your local post office where they will tell you
which you will require. So get yours now as there is no excuse for not
having one.
On a personal note, we would like to thank the Woodend at Rhodesia and
the Reef night club for their hospitality last Saturday night when we
celebrated Roger’s 50th and Stuart’s 44th birthdays and
to let you all know we have just about sobered up (only just).
Another reminder that the Worksop and District AA delegates and bookholders
match will be fished on 15th April on the Sandhill Lake with the draw
being held at the Snak Attak café on Gateford Road at 8.30am.
To register contact Mick on 01909 486893 or Derek on 01909 486350.
Our old friend Dave Bolton, who has been a staunch supporter of all
of our charity events, has decided to branch out and has set up a business
on Canal Terrace where he is producing custom built platform barrows
with all accessories.
These include umbrella arms, groundbait bucket holders (which have proved
very popular with the regulars at Lakeside), bait trays multi arms,
in fact anything you may require can be made to order and be produced
to fit any leg system. He is trading under the name of Platform Products
and can be contacted on 01909 472617. We wish Dave all the best in his
endeavours.
The Worksop cadets have now started their practice sessions and any
youngster of any ability wishing to participate can contact Doreen Butt
on 01909 770546.
LAKESIDE ROUND-UP
THE odd carp are beginning to show themselves in match weights at the
Ranskill venue but the silver fish are still the mainstay of the nets.
A special mention goes to former Worksop DAA captain Steve Lowther who
topped the field with 27lb 4oz of silver fish using pole fished pellet
on peg 39 on the Travellers AC match last Wednesday.
In Saturday’s open, Carl Sweatnam put 74lb 12oz on the scales
off peg 25 using bomb fished meat and marshmallow to claim first place.
On Sunday it was round four of the R&R Spring league: 1st Carl Sweatnam
52lb 3oz peg 27 carp and silvers on bomb and meat; 2nd Paul Wright 46lb
4oz peg 13; 3rd Dave Lawton 39lb 10oz peg 37.
Pleasure angler John Bridge from Worksop elected to fish bomb and meat
on the first peg on the second strip where he landed over 80lb of carp
and skimmers.
Specimen angler John Thompson enjoyed a session on peg six on the carp
lake landing a mirror carp of 21lb 10oz in his three-fish haul.
Over on the trout lake, John Rodgers banked 12 fish to 6lb 6oz using
black buzzers and floating line with novice fluff chuckers Nile Lilley
and Tommy Davenport managing to net several rainbows despite their lack
of experience. It is an excellent water for starting this discipline
of our sport.

CLIVE of Wetlands at Lound informs us that on the cooler days the top

Despite a slow start, the lake fished well in the afternoon. Don had
eight carp fishing pole and corn at peg 31, his biggest fish was a common
carp just over 11lb. Runner-up Barry fished a small ground bait feeder
and corn cast to the far bank for just four carp.
Holmedale Lake, Wednesday Fun League open 23 fished: 1st Fred Spooner
32lb 7oz peg 31; 2nd Reizarb Giarc 32lb 5oz peg 17; 3rd Gary Scott 28lb

A very cold start to the match and it looked like Fred at 31 on the
bore would walk it having 10 carp in the first hour.
But his swim dried up when the sun came out and he ended with a total
of 17 carp (3lb) fishing pole and corn. A late run came from fishery
newcomer Reizarb on peg 17 who fished pole and pellet for eight carp
(9lb).
Next week’s draw is at 12pm at the cabin, £14 all in. To
book a peg ring the fishery on 07721 316334.
