ONCE again congratulations are in order for our local anglers representing Worksop & DAA who fished at a National level last Saturday.
After winning the NFA Nationals in July the juniors managed a creditable fourth place in the NJAA Championships, held on the Kennet and Avon Canal in Wiltshire.
The youngsters achieved this despite never setting their eyes upon the water before, and young star Reece Nicholson claimed another medal to add to his CV by taking third place in the individual stakes.
The seniors representing the association took part in the NFA Division One National which in angling terms is the blue ribbon team event in English angling.
Despite upheaval and change of management, Ian Turner and the lads finished mid-table in 36th place out of 63 teams, thus cementing their place in the top tier of fishing for another year.
On an individual front the Nicholson family came to the fore again with Reece's brother Ashley coming fourth in his 63 peg section (come on dad Neil – pull your finger out!)
Today (Fri) the Schools National takes place at The Glebe, Leicestershire, where at least three local schools will be representing the area in a competiton where we have an outstanding history. So we would like to pass on the best of luck to Dinnington, Portland and Valley schools.
News that Sandhill Lake is continuing with its recent show of good form, with Worksop rod Garry Barlowe on song to land a carp of 19lb from peg 79.
And finally we would like to say good luck to all the anglers heading out to sea today for a deep water wrecking trip in the Bridlington Festival.

CLUB RESULTS
THE intrepid anglers from peg 31 at Dinnington and the Hatfield Arms at Laughton have held a summer series.
They have fished on the Worksop & DAA stretches of the River Trent (the Weirfield, Holme Marsh, Winthorpe and Ness Farm stretches.)
The league consisted of six matches with the final contest taking place on 31st August at Ness Farm where, in overcast conditions, old favourite the stick float claimed the first two places.
Results were: 1st Jack Evason, peg 24, 7lb 2oz, stick float for roach, 2nd Terry Moraz, peg 6, 6lb 11oz, stick float, 3rd Ron Smith, peg 22, 4lb 2oz, skimmers taken on the feeder.
In a closely contested series Terry Moraz took the honors with 24 points, closely followed by Jeff Clarke with 22 points and Dave Wright with 20 points.
The best weight taken in the league was Nick Atkins who landed 54lb 4oz off peg 5 on the Weirfield. Organiser Jack Evason informs us that if there are enough people interested next year they would like to run this event again.
The members of the Manton AC travelled to Clayworth on Saturday 30th August where they tackled the St Peter's Lane stretch of the Chesterfield Canal, where the main frame all took a mixed bag of small fish on the pole.
Results were: 1st Stuart Coupe, peg 18, 5lb 10oz, 2nd Steve Armested, peg 1, 4lb 4oz, 3rd Chris Lowe, peg 22, 2lb 15oz.

On the Strip Lake Worksop rod James Henry placed his seat box on peg 9 to plunder over 150lb of carp and silvers on pole fished pellet and maggot topped off by a mirror carp weighing 10lb 1oz.

DAIWA HALLCROFT ROUND-UP
MATCHES contested on the Moat Pool have seen a variety of methods responsible for framing weights, with paste fished over a bed of hemp consistently claiming the brown envelopes.
Worm over pellet down the edge is also taking mixed nets, with corn fished over a bed of the fishery's feed pellets tempting some of the Retford venue's proper bream.
On the Bridge Pool paste fished on the long pole is scoring for match weights in excess of 100lb, with worm presented down the margins also taking respectable mixed nets.

LODGE FARM ROUND-UP

The fishing was better than the weather strong winds and heavy rain made presentation for some very hard but it was a very close finish between the top 3 anglers. Charlie started out on the method feeder cast to the island for 5 carp but the bites where at a premium and a change to his baited margin swim brought instant results fishing pole and corn he landed carp to 7lb regularly to the end of the match . Steve was just 15oz behind he fished pole and paste out at 8m on peg 29 having an all carp net with fish to 10lb 3rd placed Mick spent too long fishing the feeder to the island without a bite, a change to the pole and paste at 7m he had 3 carp in 3 puts out with fish to 8lb and never looked back weighing in the third ton of the day.
