YOU may remember a couple of weeks ago we reported that Mick Shaw had unfortunately left his rod
hold on the banks of the canal and was appealing for its return.
How many of you, like us, thought that would be the last he saw of it?
We are happy to report that there are some honest people about! This includes Karen Roberts, of Rhodesia, who found the gear and has reunited it with Mick.
Mick would like to thank Karen for her honesty and we would also like to offer our gratitude for being such an honest person.
Another piece that has made us proud of our sport is a report we have had from Lakeside for last Tuesday's Worksop Disabled Anglers match.
Keith Walters drew favoured peg 29a and struck in to a good sized skimmer bream, which leaped from the water and tangled itself in the over-hanging tree, snapping off Keith's line. He duly stripped off, waded across and untangled the struggling fish from the branches.
We offer our respect to Keith for this humanitarian act and, following the usual environmental awareness that we associate with our sport, we are also happy to report that he went on to win the match.
A word of warning however: You must never compromise your personal safety.
Last Saturday saw 67 competitors turn out for the Worksop & D AA Annual Senior Citizens match, fished on the moat pool at their Hallcroft fisheries at Retford.
The match took place in sunny but breezy conditions where most of the anglers caught a few fish.
However, it was first timer (just 65) Mick Pogson, president of Worksop & D AA, who came out on top with a fine net of bream and carp to 10½ lb in his 31lb 6oz total from outer peg 72 using pole fished pellet.
Second spot fell to G. Yates with 22lb 12oz on outer peg 87, and filling the frame was last year's winner Ken Stevenson fishing inner peg 42 netting an all bream catch of 21lb on pole fished meat.
Thanks must go to Dereck Brown, of Worksop, for his stirling efforts in yet again organising the event, to Terry and the team at Hallcroft for all their help during the day and to John Moore and Chris Davenport for their help at the draw and throughout the day.
Staying with Hallcroft, Terry has informed us that tackle giants Diawa have really got on board with this year's Inter-Schools match.
They will be sponsoring the event and will be sending down a represenative to award the prizes.
Once again local angler and twice World Junior Champion Matt Godfrey has been selected to fish in the England Under 18 Championship squad.
This is to be fished in Belgium in July and we would like to offer him good luck in the competition.
A reminder that the Bassetlaw Senior Citizens' Festival match will be taking place on Tuesday 15th July on Sandhill Lake. Tickets are £5 with all monies being paid back in prizes. The draw will take place at 9am.

Cat meat fished down the margins is also proving to be a good back-up bait on this pool.
On the Moat pool, paste and pellet is coming in to its own, with Lee Coupe using this method to good effect for an all carp net of 76lb. Another method scoring at the moment on this pond is meat or pellet fished on the deck on the long pole.
