THERE are s
ome things in life that are almost predictable.
For example, a Bank Holiday weekend will inevitably see the weather deteriorate, match weights will be down and Andy Pickersgill will be first in the queue at the draw.
As previously advertised there were two charity matches which were both sellouts with an amazing 94 anglers lining the banks on the Weirfield/ Holmemarsh/ Winthorpe sections of the River Trent on Bank Holiday Monday for the Keith Fretwell/ Holmechurch fundraiser.
Although the winning weights were not as high as had been showing in the weeks prior to the event, eight of the 10 sections required double figures to take the honours.
The atmosphere at the draw and throughout the match was buzzing with entrants from as far as Manchester and Norwich for what resembled a match from the river's heyday.
This event could not have taken place without the kind donation of the waters from Worksop & DAA, Steve Fretwell, Gordon Smith and Derek Brown for organising the proceedings, Collingham FC for their fine hospitality, Ian Kettlewell of Bulldog Barbers for donating the trophies, Pam Johnson for registering the participants and bailiff Ian Richardson for his tireless efforts.
A total of £282 was raised for the church funds.
Results were: 1st P. Clarke, peg 138, 18lb, three chub, one barbel and a bream on the ground bait feeder with a caster hook bait, 2nd N. West, peg 4, 17lb 6oz, three barbel on the ground bait feeder and pellet, 3rd N. Morris, peg 148, 15lb 12oz, six bream on ground bait feeder.

On Saturday Bill and his team at Lodge Farm hosted the Parkison's fundraising charity event on the Lily Pond, where John Bleakley did a sterling effort with the raffle book and everyone dug deep to raise a total of £432 on the day. Results were: 1st Roy Nicholls, peg 49, 38lb 1oz, pellet waggler, 2nd Tony Dawson, peg 57, 37lb 15oz, pole and pellet, 3rd Darren Godley, peg 59, 36lb 5oz, pellet waggler.
A thank you must go to Bill for donating the pegging fees to the cause and everyone else who contributed on the day.

The members of the Manton AC would like to wish Keith Morris a speedy recovery from his recent illness and we would like to add good wishes from ourselves and all his friends in the angling community. Also best wishes to Gordon Smith and a speedy recovery after his recent accident from everybody at Worksop & DAA.
