E-mail: : roachpole10@aol.comA SPECIAL mention this week to Worksop & DAA stalwart Derek Brown, who has been rewarded by the East Midlands region of the National Federation of Anglers with the Gerald Rollison Award for services to angling.
Modest Derek has played down this recognition, but he has worked tirelessly behind the scenes for a lot of years and we feel that this honor is a reflection of his dedication.
Saturday saw the annual Inter-Parish Council Cup, competed for by Anston, Dinnington, Thorpe Salvin, Wales and Woodsetts on the match lake at Lakeside Fisheries at Ranskill.
In bright and breezy weather, all the competitors fished the event in great spirit with Dinnington running out the clear winners with a total of 16 points and Wales and Woodsetts sharing the runners-up position with 12 points.
On the individual front venue expert, Dinnington's Dave Wright, managed to dip again on peg 13 and took advantage of this to record a winning weight of 40lb 9oz.
Fellow team member Mick Donnelly claimed the runners-up position from peg 22, with 36lb 5oz of carp and silvers using bomb fished meat and pole fished maggot, with John Evason of Thorpe Salvin in third position with 23lb 5oz off peg 11, also using the maggot feeder.
All the participants would like to thank Neil and Steve at the fishery for their hospitality and Ian Lilley for organizing the event.
The beach season is now in full swing, with some of the area's anglers heading to Yarmouth last weekend to fish the John Eaves Memorial Match.
All the competitors caught with a variety of dog fish, whiting, pout and flatfish being taken and returned, as this event is fished on a catch and release points system.
The overall winner was Worksop veteran Ray Mallendar, who finished with 12 points, taken at short to medium range with a lug worm hook bait.
Continuing on the coastal front, the Worksop Guardian Invitation Beach Match on the 29th of this month is starting to gain momentum, with a good number of anglers pre-registering.
There has been an interest from a few of the registered competitors regarding the possibility of stopping overnight for bed and breakfast, rather than make the journey home on the night, and with this in mind we are negotiating with the Albert and Victoria Hotel.
So if you are interested in this option, contact Roger on the above number.
The anglers from Worksop United fished their latest permit holders' match last Saturday in difficult conditions, on their own Bracebridge section of the Chesterfield Canal:1st J. Bradford 13lb 7oz, peg 32, bronze maggot; 2nd M. Rushton 7lb 3oz, peg 21, worm; 3rd M. Allen 5lb 4oz, peg10, worm.
COMMERCIAL ROUND UPOVER at Retford, at the Daiwa Hallcroft complex, maggot fished over a bed of pellet on the long pole is proving effective on the moat pool, as is expander pellet fished over a bed of the fishery's own feed pellet.
If the platforms are empty on the opposite bank, it is always worth a cast with hair rigged corn or pellet fished on the bomb or pellet feeder for the resident carp.
On Bridge Pool, pellet over pellet on the long pole is proving the most productive method with corn a good alternative.
Lodge Farm saw the regular Tuesday visit of the Likely Lads, to fish the Lily Pond, where Reg Turner led the way with an impressive 71lb 4oz from peg 57, employing pole fished pellet.
Simon Short claimed second place with 46lb 1oz from peg 58 and Alan Goldspink made up the frame with 41lb 11oz using bomb fished meat on peg 56.
Thursday's invitation on Long Island saw Reg Turner claim back-to-back wins off peg 95, weighing 82lb 8oz using pole and pellet, with Andy Hill in second with 63lb 2oz off peg 78 using bomb fished meat and pellet.
Bill would like us to remind you that Saturday's open is to be fished on the Signal Pond with the draw taking place at the café at 9am.
Over at Lakeside Fishery at Ranskill, the maggot feeder has been reigning supreme on the match lake for silver fish nets approaching 50lb from all sides of the lake, with pole fished maggot over ground bait tempting plenty of skimmers, roach, andide.
On the second strip pond DJ Angling's latest match required 78lb 10oz to take the honours off peg 1, while on the first strip the maggot feeder is proving the top method.
On the carp lake Shaun Jackson banked a 27lb 10oz common in his three fish haul from peg 3.
On the trout lake Worksop's Pete Brown landed 13 fish to 3lb, with fellow fly caster Pete Scott slipping his landing net under 15 fish to an impressive 7lb.
