The 'Red Eric'
(Stocky Buzzer)

Fish this fly on point of a floating line and longish leader of around 20ft using a variety of retrieves from fast 'figure of eight' to static!

I like to use it on a 3 fly cast. The name 'Stocky Buzzer' is a false one really. This pattern has caught fighting fit overwintered Rutland trout in excess of 5lbs regularly!

1.
Size 10 Kamasan 175 hook (or similar). Black thread tied to 'just' around the bend. Select a good bunch of dyed 'Deep Red' Cock hackle fibres and tie in as a tail.

2.
Build-up the body with black thread creating a 'carrot shape'

3.
Continue wrapping to form 'carrot shape'

4.
The finished 'carrot shape'

5.
Now time for the Buzzer cheeks!
For this I use Crisp packet wrapping..
a commonly known and used material nowadays!

6.
Cut a couple of fine slips of crisp packet.
Tie these in just behind the eye - on either side - pay close attention to symmetry.

7.
Pull the wing slips forward and bring the thread back a third of the body length.
Using forefinger and thumb, bring the wing slips back and tie in.

8.
Trim and whip finish
Varnish the whole body of the fly at least 3 times.
