Introna's Claret 'Straggle'
Dabbler
This is a cracking fly fished in teams of three (if you wish) particularly
good on Carsington Reservoir.
Size 10 on point, 12 on middle and 14 on the top dropper!
You may add a few strands of 'Pearl' Crystal hair to the wing and tail
for extra pulling power!!

1. Fix a size 10 175 Kamasan (or similar) hook in vice and using black
thread, 'tie-in' a bunch of dyed Claret Hen Pheasant centre tail fibres.
I find they are much stronger and hardier than Cock Pheasant.
Tie these in to just above the hook bend.

2. Using some of Dave Downies excellent fly tying materials in this case,
Claret 'Definite Advantage' Straggle Chenille.
(Telephone: Dave on 0141 8120783 for more information on this product)

3. Tie this in at the rear.
Then dub the body with Claret seals fur or substitute.
Finishing off just behind the eye of the hook.

4. At this stage, select a Claret dyed Cock hackle of good size.
Tie this in and palmer this back down the body of the fly.

5. Like so...
You may use hackle pliers if you wish

6. Catch-in this hackle with the Straggle Chenille as you would with a
wire rib or suchlike.
Using open turns, finish off behind the eye of the hook.
Trim excess off.

7. Time to select a strip of Bronze Mallard for the wing.

8. Fold / roll the wing and offer it on top of the fly using your forefinger
and thumb to position it.

9. Tie in same Bronze Mallard as a beard, just beyond the hook bend..

10. Time to whip finish

11. All that is needed now is a couple of coats of varnish to the head!
And there you have it - the Claret Straggle Dabbler!
