Anglers’ quick response saves drowning lady

The quick response of two Worksop anglers helped to prevent an elderly lady drowning as they fished nearby last Thursday.
Sandhill Lake regular Roger Green was fishing in the 50s when he heard cries for help from someone across the lake.
It seems that the elderly lady, who lived in the flats at the side of the pond, had been trying to coax her sick cat away from the water’s edge.
She apparently lost her balance and fell length ways into the pond. Roger swiftly left his tackle and went to the ladies aid and gently lifted the woman out from the water.
It was at this point Langold angler Mick Hill turned up. He took the lady back to her flat and prompted the warden to call a doctor before going on his way.
It appears she was given a clean bill of health, although a little shaken up, and would like to thank Roger and Mick for their help and assistance. Well done chaps!
And for the animal lovers, her cat is now a lot better too.

Kiss of death for Welbeck

As expected, following my report last week that Welbeck Lake was on, Dave Allison told me this week that it has now gone off, in particular the top lake!
Looks like I gave Welbeck the kiss of death. However all is not lost as Sandhill Lake is fishing very well I am told.
It is said that hybrids of up to a pound and half are being caught in numbers, with pole or feeder, maggot or caster as hookbait.
Some of the hot-spots (don’t all fight to get in) are in the 50s. Also, there are plenty of proper bream still to be caught and the occasional carp coming to the net with groundbait feeder worm and caster best.
At the top end of the bottleneck, sweetcorn is pulling some good tench also. Hurry though, because I may have put the mockers on this hot spot before next week.
