Terrific
sport for Welbeck anglers
Reports
have been coming in of the terrific sport being had by Welbeck anglers
who are lucky enough to hold a permit.
The good news is that the top lake is now producing bream and roach in
abundance.
Pole, waggler and feeder tactics are accounting for many big weights.
Local expert, Dave Allison, has gleefully visited me and begged me to
visit the top lake with him the other day.
Unfortunately, I was so busy with work I was unable to cast a fly let
alone get my coarse gear aired!
My last outing was a trip with my two children teaching them pole fishing
at Lodge Farm a couple of weeks ago.
But trust me, Ill be there as soon as I can, and hopefully the fish
will wait for me. If not, I shall be happy with the peace and quiet, coupled
with relaxation.
Dave has told me about his method of baiting his swim when tackling the
bream shoals at distance.
He uses a heavy pike rod to cast a huge, adapted drain pipe
swimfeeder filled with groundbait, sweetcorn, casters and worm.
A few chucks of this and hes set up to not only entice a shoal,
but also keep em there!
He then simply sets up a normal feeder rod with the more conventional
sized feeder, and fishes away as-per normal.
Ive had some massive catches including specimen sized bream
with either sweetcorn or worm on the hook, he said.
I may just borrow this clever contraption when I pop over with him in
the near future... who knows?
Prospects
Lakeside
Ranskill held an open match on Bank Holiday Monday, which produced some
cracking weights.
The winner fished peg 28 and took 120lb of carp and silver fish using
pole and paste.
Peg three had over 77lb, taking second place! On the coarse lake, there
are regular reports averaging catches of over 50lb.
On the first strip pond (first peg) Colin Patterson of Rotherham had 31
carp to 15lb 10oz on pole fished chum mixer and bread.
At the Carp lake, Tim Davies of York had nine fish including four 20s,
the biggest a 28lb 4oz common from peg three on boilies.
