Martin hooks up with the Anglerstimes

Avid angler Martin Introna is hoping to get the right lines for Worksop Guardian readers after hooking up with the newspaper.

The 47-year-old is to take over the role of angling correspondent from next week following the retirement of the long-serving Glyn Williams.

Martin, an experienced coarse, game and fly fisherman first took an interest in the sport at the age of eight and has been ‘hooked’ ever since.

“I started fishing when I stole a bamboo cane from my dad’s garden,” said Martin. “This combined with a bent pin tied to some cotton, and a freshly dug worm, produced a small gudgeon from my local Chesterfield Canal.”

Martin spent much of his early years fishing the Chesterfield Canal and Sandhill Lake before getting into competitive angling when he started work at Smith’s Mills.

He won his first ever match with them on the Coronation Channel with 2lb 2oz and went on to represent Hodthorpe WMC.

He then went on take up fly fishing and progressed to International level, making five England appearances.

It enabled him to write regularly for several angling magazines – experience that should come in handy over the next few months.
“I want to try to cater for all types of fishing but still with a heavy bias towards the coarse match fishing scene.”
“I would like to hear from all the clubs out there, including their results and any photos they might have.”
“I also believe that what the readers would like to see is how matches are won - methods, bait and peg numbers.”
“But I also want to hear from pleasure fisherman as well as matchmen, especially if you have any amusing tales or anecdotes you would like to share.”

If you want to get in contact with Martin to give him any results, stories or information, you can e-mail him at martintrona@aol.com
