Ken Stevenson is a highly qualified Senior Angling Coach for the National Federation of Anglers. He’s based in Worksop, Nottinghamshire - and can be contacted by phone on 01909 721403.

He’s presently running an angling course in the Worksop area on Wednesday evenings, they start 26th April and will run for a total of 10 weeks.

Courses are free of charge, being funded by Nottinghamshire County Council through the North Notts. College. The sessions will last for approx two hours - they are very informative, friendly and great fun!

The sessions are held at the Worksop Miners Welfare, 7-9pm.

Schedule

Ken is very flexible with his timetable, adapting to students’ requests, but the basis is as follows:

Monday 26th April
Introduction, angling reading habits, creating an angling log and weather cycles.

Monday 10th May
All aspects of safety in angling, fish species, fish biology and knots.

Monday 17th May
Fishing floats for still and slow moving waters, shotting patterns, presentation, etc.

Monday 24th May
All types of reels, fixed spool, centre pin, closed face, etc.

Monday 7th June
Running-water floats, shotting patterns, etc. Different types of lines, their strengths, etc.

Monday 14th June
Pole fishing - techniques, elastication, etc. with a comparison to whip fishing.

Monday 21st June
Feeder fishing/legering - in still water and on rivers, how to be comfortable and relaxed during a feeder session

Monday 28th June
All aspects of hooks, hook patterns, hook tying, hook lengths. etc. Fish species and angling venues

Monday 5th July
All about groundbaits, their mixing, additives, storage and re-use. This is a ‘hands-on’ session!

Monday 12th July
Baits, exotic and natural - their use and storage, plus a final overview of the course.

There will be a day’s practical fishing/demonstrations for all those attending the course - tba.
