Three comfortable venues

Over the years I have noticed that of the many different questions I get asked about fishing over the telephone or by letter, by far the most common query is not about how to fish, or what with, but where to fish.
Though a lot of our fishing is done on commercial fisheries these days for a variety of reasons, not least of which is the facility for parking the car near your chosen swim and being able to keep an eye on it while you fish.
The opportunity to buy hot food on site, and the presence of clean and comfortable toilets is another boon, as is the presence of lots of decent sized fish.
However, there are a few such commercial fisheries that offer all of the above mentioned facilities but which have a number of different waters on site so that several kinds of fishing can be done, including trout on the fly as well as good coarse fishing.
There are at least three different places that fulfil the requirements and that I can thoroughly recommend.
The first, and nearest for anglers in our part of the country, is Bernie Maher’s lovely three-lake complex called Press Manor Fishery near Chesterfield.
Big carp, lots of silver fish, and a big well stocked trout lake with big fly hatches including mayfly here.
Then there is a similar place that can be recommended at Neil Grantham’s Lindholme Lakes fishery, which had long been a super place but has become even better under Neil’s administration.
Finally there is the Lakeside fishery complex at Ranskil.
Several coarse lakes here with lots of big fish including huge carp. And the trout lake, though a bit noisy due to passing trains on the nearby busy line, is always heavily stocked with trout including some whoppers. Few anglers ever fail to catch trout here.
Day tickets available on site at these fisheries. Go and enjoy them.
