Start
of the Season
The
start of the new season on the Grafton Angling Association waters of the
Chesterfield Canal was heralded on 16th June when anglers lined the banks
from Bracebridge Lock right the way through to Shireoaks Bridge.
Many local anglers who had waited patiently for the glorious opening day
could not curb their enthusiasm to get to their favourite pegs in the
hope of catching plenty of the resident fish stocks, and they were not
disappointed, with many anglers securing weights in excess of 25lb.
I actually witnessed a magnificent net of fish taken by Darren Smith from
Kendal Close who caught over 30lb of fish which included a carp of 12lb
backed up with some quality roach, skimmers, chub and an unusual species
from new peg 58 just past the Sea Cadets.
Fishing buddies Ian Lilley, Stuart Lilley and Chris Davenport fished side
by side near to the Caravan Club entrance behind Sandhill Lake and netted
over 70lb of fish between them with some prime roach, chub and bream over
3lb being caught .
George Martin had a relaxing session near to the Riverside Club opposite
the Willow Tree and he hooked and landed a nice eel.
Ness Farm at Cromwell got off to a good start with Ian and Stewart Lilley
taking advantage of the new season following on from their successes
the day before.
They had quality bream in excess of 4lb plus plenty of skimmers and perch
that were caught on the feeder method alternating double red maggot and
worm on the hook.
Stewart fished to the left of the pump station and Ian fished a few pegs
further away heading down towards the lock.
