Morse
Lock junior results
A total
of 30 junior anglers registered for this annual competition to commemorate
the sixth anniversary of the opening of Morse Lock on the Chesterfield
Canal.
The match was fished on the John Shaw section by courtesy of the Grafton
Angling Association with British Waterways, Waterline Tackle (Sheffield),
Ken Ward Sports and Bassetlaw Trophies, sponsoring the event.
The results were as follows: Individual winner was Shaun Kearsley (Wakefield)
with 8lbs 11oz of chub to 2lbs 1oz from peg 126 using chopped worm and
caster on the pole tight across. Runner-up for the second consecutive
year was Nicky Milnthorpe (Portland School) with 8lbs 6oz (peg 122), third
place was taken by Gavin Tomlinson (WDAA Juniors) 6lb 9oz (p138). The
biggest fish winner was Shaun Kearsley (Wakefield) with a chub of 2lbs
1oz.
The age group winners were under 13s Matthew Pickwell (Hodthorpe)
4lbs 14oz from peg 123, Matthew Godfrey (WDAA Juniors) 2lbs 2oz (p140),
Robert Stocks (Worksop) 2lbs 1oz (p116), Paul Dickson (Rhodesia) 5oz (p136).
Under 16s Shaun Kearsley (Wakefield) with 8lbs 11oz from peg 126,

Bell (Portland Comprehensive) 3lbs 9oz (p143).
At the formal presentation, event organiser Glyn Williams introduced Steven
Stanfield the representative of British Waterways and Ken Ward of Ken
Ward Sports who presented the prizes.
He then paid tribute to British Waterways, Bassetlaw Trophies, to Trevor
Dolman and Ray Townsend of Waterline Tackle, Ken Ward of Ken Ward Sports
and the Grafton Angling Association Committe who, between them, ensured
that over £1,000 worth of prizes were distributed on the night with
every competitor receiving more than one prize.
Thanks were also extended to all of the stewards and to the management
of the Lock Keeper for the use of their facilities.
I would also like to extend a personal vote of thanks to the Pickwell,
Godfrey, and Stocks families for the sporting manner in which they all
accepted the change of results in the junior section after a stewards
enquiry. You are all a credit to the sport.

Grafton
AA Open The next open event is scheduled to take place on the Tigers Den
section of the Chesterfield Canal on Tuesday 2nd July.
The draw will take place at the Precinct Car Park at 5pm and fishing will
be 6pm until 9pm. The entry fee is £8 and further details can be
obtained from Rod Clarke on 01623 822329.
Worksop Piscatorial members wishing to renew their membership should contact
the new secretary Denise Payne on 01909 733886
Any individual wishing to join the club should speak to Denise for further
details.
Worksop United members wishing to take part in the next match on Sunday
at Sandhill Lake should submit their names to the secretary as soon as
possible.

Open Matches
The last
two results of the midweek open matches that were held on Sandhill Lake
are as follows:
Match One Roger Green (Worksop) 27lbs 8oz from peg 64, Mick Pogson
(executive committee) 14lbs 12 (p58) Malcolm Hancock (Creswell) 14lbs
6oz (p52). The main species caught were bream upto 5lbs that were caught
on the ground bait feeder method.
Match Two was brought forward to the Saturday due to holiday commitments
of the event organiser and the results were fantastic.
Top rod on the day was Wilf Salmon (Greyhound AC) with 35lbs 6oz comprising
of bream to 4lbs from peg 57, runner-up was Mick Pogson (executive committee)
with 29lbs 5oz (p58), followed by Malcolm Rushton (Worksop United) 20lbs
5oz (p51), and Steve Pogson (Worksop) 11lbs 9oz..
This was the final event in the series and a total of £409.50 has
been raised to assist with the construction of new platforms at the venue.
Congratulations are extended to event organiser Mick Pogson and his assistant
Tommy Harper and to everyone who supported the series.
