Canal
users asked to be extra-vigilant
All local
anglers and members of the general public are asked to be vigilant while
on the towpath of the Chesterfield Canal.
The Grafton Angling Association need help in their efforts of identifying
those responsible for nearly causing a major fish mortality on their waters.
Sometime on Saturday evening or early Sunday morning the lock gates at
Morse Lock were vandalised resulting in a dewatering of the John Shaw
section.
Apart from the inconvenience caused to the management of the club, boaters
and British Waterways the most fearsome problem was a risk of losing the
fish stocks.
I would ask that members of the general public to notify us if they witness
any irresponsible activity around any lock gates on the Chesterfield Canal.
The emergency free-phone number for British Waterways is 0800 4799947.
