Fees are now due for Grafton winter league

Registration fees are now being accepted for the 2002/3 Winter League series that is scheduled to take place on the club’s holdings of the Chesterfield Canal.

Registrations can be made at the premises of the club’s sponsor, Ken Ward Sports on Carlton Road.

Those anglers who took part in last year’s event and fished five matches will be given priority of registration and they have until 10th November to register in person. Block bookings will not be allowed.

Any other individual angler who does not meet the above criteria who wishes to take part in this year’s league should register their names personally at Ken Ward Sports. Any vacant places will be allocated in order of registration on a first come, first served basis.

The league will be restricted to 60 anglers and there will be six matches to fish, with the best five results counting towards the aggregate league results.

The entry fee is £15 and all cheques should be made payable to Grafton Angling Association.
Dates for the six matches are 24th November, 1st, 15th December, 2nd, 16th February and 2nd March.

The draw will take place at the Woodhouse Inn pub from 8.15am until 9am and fishing will be from 10am until 3pm.

The entry fee for each match will be £10 with prizes allocated to sections plus five individual pay-outs.

Three person team registrations are being accepted with the entry fee of £6 per team.

Braided lines will not be allowed in this event and any angler found to be using them will be excluded from the competition and forfeit any accumulated points and any fees paid. Further details from Rod Clark on 01623 822329.

Sandhill Lake Fund Raiser

Andy Marsden’s second open event that took place on Sandhill Lake attracted 17 anglers who were confronted with a fishery that had been subjected to the first heavy overnight frost of the year, making fishing very difficult for many of them.

The result proved to be a one horse race with Tommy Harper of Worksop obliterating the rest of the field with an amazing 66lb of bream up to 6lb.

Fishing well out into the centre of the lake, he used the polaris sidewinder method from peg 57 with the groundbait feeder and worm as hook bait.

Runner-up was Stewart Brumpton (Worksop) with 11lb 6oz from peg 51, with Simon Smith (Worksop) third with 5lb 3oz from peg 52.

The total amount raised towards the platform project now stands at £506.50 and it is anticipated that work will start as soon as the water reaches its winter levels.

Notice Board

Worksop United’s permit holders’ match will take place tomorrow on the Bracebridge section and the entry fee is £4.

Association News

The executive committee of Worksop and District Anglers’ Association (WDAA) have organised a social event for senior members of the general public in an effort to raise funds ready for their junior section’s 2003 activities.

A Millionaires’ Casino Night is to be held at the Innings, on Gloucester Road, Prospect Estate, Worksop, on Friday 29th November starting at 7.30pm.

The entry fee will be just £5 and this will include pie and pea refreshments and £3,000 worth of gambling tokens to help those taking part on their way to becoming a fictional millionaire for the night.

Special prizes will be distributed to the winners of various activities.

This social event will give an opportunity to any parent whose kids have already passed through or are currently involved in the WDAA junior set-up to come along and have a very enjoyable evening.

The activity is being supported by the Babworth Charity Group, who themselves raise funds for local disability organisations.

Any individual wishing to donate raffle prizes, vouchers or other items are asked to contact Glyn Williams on 01909 474940.

Tickets are available from Angling Supplies, Gateford Angling Supplies, Go Baits of Langold, Ken Ward Sports, Bassetlaw Trophies, the Innings and from WDAA executive committee members.
