Lou
forced to step down
Worksop
Piscatorial members should note that the club secretary Lou Woodhead is
ill in Bassetlaw Hospital at this moment in time and unable to fulfil
his duties as secretary and treasurer.
The clubs
affairs relating to WDAA members books are now in the hands of the former
WDAA president Geoff Barker who has kindly agreed to cover Lous
duties on a short temporary basis. All enquiries should be directed to
Geoff who can be contacted on 01909 473426. He will then make arrangements
for those individuals to collect their WDAA books after 6th June.
Payments and names can also be registered at Angling Supplies (Retford
Road), Gateford Angling Supplies (Gateford Road), Go Baits (Langold) and
Ken Ward Sports (Carlton Road). Senior citizens wishing to enquire about
the annual match at Hallcroft on 1st June should contact Derek Brown on
01909 486350 for further details.
An extraordinary meeting for Worksop Piscatorial members has been convened
for Tuesday 28th May at the Innings on Gloucester Road, Prospect Estate,
starting at 7pm prompt.
The main item on the agenda is to elect someone to take over as secretary
and that of treasurer to replace an individual who can only be described
as an angling icon.
The members are requested to attend this special meeting to help safeguard
the long term future of their club, so that all the hard work that Lou
has put in over many years is not wasted, and to ensure the prosperity
of the club.
Lou has got such an active mind and is a wealth of angling knowledge.
He is without doubt one of the finest, cleverest and most dedicated administrators
of angling that this town has ever produced.
As an individual, I have been fortunate enough to have received a number
of administrative
accolades during my angling career and this is purely down to the support
that I have received from my two main mentors over the past 25 years,
namely the late Gerald Rollinson and, for the past decade, Lou Woodhead.
In 1994, when I retired as general secretary of WDAA to concentrate on
the coaching of junior anglers, it was Lou Woodhead that lobbied the executive
committee to create a new post within the WDAA Constitution, that of junior
education officer.
At that time he also insisted that I should be elected to fill the position,
the committee agreed, and I accepted the post all as a direct result
of Lou Woodheads long term vision.
He was responsible for pioneering the success of what can only be described
as the best junior angling section in the country, and for that, I, along
with other members of WDAA will be forever grateful.
On behalf of the Executive Committee and members of WDAA, Worksop Piscatorial
members, and that of the Grafton Angling Association, Worksop United,
the Witham and District Joint Anglers Federation, the Committee and Regional
Coaches of the National Federation of Anglers (East Midland Region) and
all local anglers. I would like to express our sincere thoughts of concern
and support for Lou at this present time.
Redlands
School Activity
In our
capacity as NFA Regional coaches, Ken Stevenson and I have been providing
some after-school angling coaching sessions at Redlands School at Worksop.
The 10 one hour sessions have been taking place on a fortnightly basis
since January and also included a bankside activity on Sandhill Lake,
courtesy of our sponsors Worksop and District Anglers Association.
On Monday of this week, the school held a special prize giving ceremony
in front of all the pupils and members of staff.
Ken was unable to attend on the day, but on behalf of us both I was presented
with a certificate plus a thank you card and gift by the 12 members of
the group as a token of their appreciation for the help and support that
we have volunteered on their behalf to try and make them better anglers.

Club
secretaries are reminded that names and entry fees for the senior citizens
match at Hallcroft on Saturday 1st June should be sent to the secretary
as soon as possible and that the official application forms for member
books must also be returned ready for distribution at the June meeting.
Cromwell Lake proved fruitful for two or three anglers this week with
Ian Upton and Barry Young both catching five carp running to 19lbs. Andrew
Ivy caught two fish that weighed 20lbs and 25lbs respectively.
Richard
Wesley
I would
like to extend congratulations to Richard Wesley from Worksop who is one
of our regular junior anglers that takes part in our domestic competitions.
Richard, 14, who is a pupil at Valley School is also a very competent
table tennis player. He has worked extremely hard over the past two years
and his efforts have been rewarded with selection to represent England
Schools in an international tournament in Cardiff at the end of June.
Congratulations are also extended to Richards parents who have provided
him with a great deal of financial and moral support to help him on his
way to success. Well done to you all, the accolade is well deserved.
